There are innumerable threads on this and other boards on this issue. Search will show you a list of them. It is unlikely that anything said here will change the opinion of those whose minds are made up, but it is always interesting to reflect.

I agree. Best thing to do is change the oil earlier than the BMW optimistic interval, but also take them up on their free oil changes.

Do whatever oil service floats your boat. IMO all of the other elctrical and mechanical parts in the X will fall apart long before you experience an oil related engine failure regardless of the oil change service interval you pick.
