2nd set of headlamps...functional?

Hi All! First post on this site! Been lurking on the site ever since I picked up the x5 3.0si in late december!

Anyway, I was wondering if maybe my second set of headlamps are even functional? I'm thinking maybe both bulbs are burned out or there's some sort of malfunction? The wife's E92 2nd set of headlamps light up when she has her turn signals on....and the corresponding bulb lights up.

Thanks all!

First time BMW owner btw (wife's car was bought in November) and I must say, it feels great!

:wavey::xoutpost::wavey:

what second set of headlights are you refering to?

the inner ones? flash-to-pass beams?....or the fog lights? cornering fog lights?

if you're talking about the cornering [fog] lights, then they operate when your headlights are on.

Hi xnsf!

I'm referring to the inner ones.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

The inner lights are used for the daytime running lights.

For a guide to all the lighting functions of the X5, see this thread:

Something must be wrong with mine then....they're most definitely not on during the day! Only the rings.

The rings may be bright enough that BMW is using that to pass as their daytime running light. That's what I've been seeing with the newer bimmers. To see whether your flash-to-pass high beams are working, simply pull the "signal" stalk toward you and the lights should only be on as long as the stalk is being held in that position.

By the way...:rtfm: ;)

The option for daytime running lights is turned on/off in iDrive.

Nothing turns on in the middle part of the inner section for the X5 - only the rings. Your wife's E92 inner part turns on as a function of the adaptive headlights for turning. If you have adaptive lights on your X5, the foglights are used to serve that function!

pb48,
I do not fully understand what you are saying. If you look at the following picture of an X5, the inner lights do turn on along with the corona rings. The light is dim however. Also, I do not believe the inner lights work in conjunction with the adaptive lights on the E92. These lights also serve as daytime running lights, as is the case with recently designed BMWs (E92, E93, face lifted E60, E70)
