headlight switch alarm

Hello! I just got an 08 x5 4.8 in alpine white. How come there is no signal or alarm to let the driver know if headlight switch is left on after turning off engine and removing key? This frustrates me sometimes because you could be driving with headlights on during the day because you have forgotten to turnoff headlight switch the day before.

There is on mine. Sounds when you open the door.

I set the headlight selector to the icon showing a light and a small "a". The lights come on automatically when dark, off when light, and turn off when you remove the key.

I agree - why not leave it on auto? It works great.

Most headlight alarms do not sound until you open the door. Try oprning the door with the headlights on and the key out and see what happens.

I left the headlight switch on, turnoff engine, remove keys and open door but still no alarm sound to let me know that headlight switch is left on. Any advice is much appreciated.

I take it you don't get the warning light on the dash either? In any case, take it to your dealer. It's their responsibility to worry about these things on your behalf.

I too get an alarm when I open the door, take it back to the dealership.

If it's switched to the adaptive mode, you will not hear an alarm, only if it is on the regualr light mode will a warning sound.

Cheers,
