Efficient Dynamics on E70
Hi to all,
Could someone tell me how you can check if a X5 3.0sd model has the Efficient Dynamics or not (I mean break energy regeneration and so on). Another question; does somebody know if it's possible to lock the steering wheel in the X5 E70 Model? Many thanks in advance |
I could be wrong, but I think all SDs have ED as they were introduced at the same time. The original 3.0d doesn't have it - but the ones built since Sept do.
|
Dealer told me it was all cars built after week 36 2007
|
Any car after built after week 40 was the ED model, There were some early sd's that did not have the Effecient dynamics upgrade ie some from week 36 to 40 ! would be an awfall shame if yours was one of those

The key things to see the Efficient Dynamics

Hi!
If your E70 is Efficient dynamics you could see two automatic blinds behind the front kidney grills. These blinds automatically open or close for controlling the air flow. Take a look of the difference at the linked pictures below. Also your car is ED if you have the AUTO HOLD button for automatic control of the `park break“. My car is E70 3.0D (not SD) and it is ED |
Thanks to all,
I have to ask my dealer what is the production week, but I can tell that my X5 has the Auto Hold function. However, if I see the pictures that Enriquemoro sent, my X5 seems to be not ED equiped. It's a bit strange... |
Hi,
I wonder if someone could find if his X5 has the Brake Energy Recuperation. |
I have a 3.0SD that was built in Week 50, it has the auto-hold etc, but I am 99% sure that it does not have the blinds behind the kidney grilles like the picture.
It's dark here at the moment, but I will check again later. On the registration document the C02 emmissions are listed at 216g/Km which I thought was one of the benefits of ED. |
216g/km certainly indicates that it is the ED model.
|
I didn't think any SD's were made that weren't ED. I forget which week mine is but it was to my knowledge one of the first in the UK (certainly one of the first on this forum) and it is ED. Mine was built in early November I think, the first or second week the auto tailgate was available.
If the car is an ex-demonstrator it might be different as those cars were about three or four weeks earlier than customer cars. |
Same with mine, registration document C02 emmissions are listed at 216g/Km but can't say ive seen the blinds behind the grills. I got mine the same week as Fredo so ill have to check when im next back home
|
i have a week 48 build and don't see those auto blinds behind the grilles..
and i do have the auto-hold option too!! |
For the benefit of others who may not have (Efficient Dynamics) Could someone explain what Efficient Dynamics is in some detail?
|
Fredo i was under the impression that some of the very early potentially ex demonstrators were not ED's aprox 3/4 weeks before the week 40 dead line..
I have a week 48 build and i have the shutters and auto hold too... Quicksilver - Effecency dynamicis is basically an emmisisons change that BMW made to most of the range, "aparently" it means more performance with less emmissions, it has effected us here in the uk due to the tax banding of the vehicle...Any diesel X5 built after week 40 dropped below the 225g CO2 (3.0d now 216gCO2 previously 231g CO2) it lowered the anual tax on the car by £95 plus allows you to dodge the £25.00 london congestion charge and pay only £8.00, the SD model also dropped below this figure of 225 imposed by the government here. BMW achieved it with tweeks to the aerodynamics and engine management although i cant see any aerodynamic difference with the pre week 40 builds... This very small change will potentially have bigger impacts here in the UK than the US on residual values of the car... i hope this helps. if not check this thred for more info ... im not sure what happened with the petrol versions to be honest. http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e70-forum/...furious-4.html Correct me if im wrong but i thought features such as auto hold etc were not part of the efficiency dynamics but just additions to the 2008 spec??? |
Thanks for all your answers. AS it has 216 Co2 it must be the ED model.

I am not fully sure but I think my SD is a production week +48. I noticed that my new SD does not have these "active air vents". Like the other guys here, its has autohold and it has a CO2 emissions of 216g/km. Hummm:(
