Door Lock Question

Just bought my new 2008 X5 3.0 with Prem and Tech Pkg. I have it set up so that all doors lock as I drive away. However, when I stop and park, all doors remain locked even after I open the driver door (with 2 pulls). The manual indicates only way to unlock all 4 doors is to push the unlock button on the center dashboard. iDrive has no settings for this feature. Any ideas?

Fastbuck 03-02-2008 04:30 PM

The manual is correct. No other way except pressing unlock on the key fob.

I appreciate the reply. A little cumbersome but I will get used to it. What a great car. So far, so good.

I agree that this is a strange "feature". Every door needs a double pull unless you press the unlock button in center of dash first.

I actually spent some time with my manual and iDrive yesterday to see if there was some way to change this. I could not find a way...

its a safety feature :)

Hans_ACS 03-03-2008 07:27 AM

Yep, this is sometimes anoying. When I get out of the car (by means of pulling twice at the door handle), and then go to open the trunk, the trunk is locked :)

yeah I push the button to let others out. It's a minor inconvenience but I'm living with it. there must be a good reason for it. I know some of the older cars when you put the car to "p" all the doors unlock, but lately some of the cars (merc and BMW and others) have employed the "unlock button" systems.

Yes, if you are stopping at night in the remote regions of a shopping center parking lot, or some other potentially dangerous place, it is generally not the safest thing to automatically unlock all the doors when you put the transmission into park. I believe the current idea is that the doors should not unlock unless you specifically do an action to make them unlock.

I know if I stop at a virtually deserted gasoline station at 3 AM in the Morning for gasoline, I would rather not have all four doors unlock when I put my vehicle into Park.

I agree that it's probably a safety feature. I'd like to be able to override it. Not necessarily when I put the car into Park but maybe when I open the driver's door. I'm surprised that we have no options like that.

I am in total agreement with brian5 comments

My doors unlock automatically after I turn off the ignition.

Jayo, not that we doubt you, but are you certain? My 08 behaves the same way as most of the posts in this thread. Could you verify and confirm for us please.

It might be different in the UK models although Fastbuck was same as U.S. ...

We're due to pick up our ordered 4.8i next month even though it already arrived at the dealer and this is one 'feature' that's always annoyed me when I drive my parents' E66 750Li.

The one major downer scenario would be when we want to take our daughter out of her car seat in the back, we'll have to remember to 'pre unlock' all the time.

Question: we also ordered Comfort Access - now that it's accessible from all doors, will it allow us to unlock the other doors by pulling on the exterior door handle?

Yes.

Hi Nick,

No problem, I started to doubt myself when I saw that I was the only post to have this functionality.

So I wne out and tested it and I can confirm that after my car has locked the doors automatically, it will unlock all doors as the instant I press the Start/Stop button to switch the engine off.

I have a 2008 model, week 50 (2007) production. I also have comfort access although I doubt that this is the reason for it.

I am wondering if it's one of those country specific things. I will PM a couple of the other Uk owners who picked up their SD's around the same time as me.

I wonder if this is a dealer specific option and they could program if requested.

dwarfer 03-06-2008 04:41 AM

I can vouch for Jayo's comments as my SD also locks the doors when I move off and unlocks them when I stop the Engine.

This is set in the idrive menu. You can select whether the car unlocks just tehe drivers door or all four doors. I have mine set to just the drivers door.

I don't think that question was asked :)

kimg9582 03-06-2008 08:09 PM

the iDrive setting is for the the remote key fob to open all 4 doors with one click or just the driver door.
