Progman update to ver. 28.02
 

Brought my 07 X5 into the dealership and had them do some minor service (brake pads) and got them to update to the latest version of Progman (ver. 28.02). Car transmission is really smooth now (old version was 25.1). In the past when i put transmission into sport mode and DS the car would hold the gear way too long and made for a herky jerky ride. Now when I put the X5 into the DS mode the gearing is perfect. Anyone know additional benefits of updated programming?

Where did you find the update version (where can I look up mine?)?

I believe the only way to find out the version is to ask your dealer. My X5 was an early production model (12/06) so I initially had a number of issues. I had the x5 reprogrammed in April 07 and it made a big difference. Besides correcting issues when they update Progman they also update functionality (like NAV system and Audio, etc.).

The transmission shifting in my mid-January '08 build is really smooth. It looks like fewer firmware updates are being made available in the last few months because before we had so many members talking about it and now not anymore. Glad they're finally getting it right.

It looks like they finally got it right. Initially the transmission was a mess in terms of shifting etc. After they reprogrammed the entire car in April it was much better with the exception of the DS mode. As i stated earlier it would hold the gears to long and the ride was rough. After the latest reprogramming of the car, I am happy to report that the X5 drives Great!

I did not notice any new functionality though (with last update they changed the look of the Audio and NAV).

i would like to get the latest version available...(only because i'm sure it has addressed other issues)

problem is i'm not sure if i already have the latest... my 08 was built on week 48 of 07

does anyone who received their vehicle around that time know what their firmware version is???

Most likely you do not have the latest update. I believe that 28.00 came out in December with 28.01 and 28.02 shortly thereafter. Problem is BMW will not update your car unless there is an issue that requires updating program (it takes several hours). You may want to let them know that you are having an issue with the tail gate soft close malfunctioning (intermittantly) similar to the one that is outlined in Service Bulletin 51-31-0 7. Conveniently the only remedy is to reprogram the entire vehicle.:thumbup:

Tailgate Soft-close Malfunction

SITUATION
When the upper half of the tailgate is closed and then immediately opened, the striker may stay in the lower/fully closed position, making the tailgate difficult to close.
CAUSE
A software error relating to the signal sent to the tailgate striker

PROCEDURE
Program the vehicle with the most recent Progman version (target data status E070-07-09-515 or later). Refer to SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization and Programming), Procedure B.
Note that Progman will automatically reprogram all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Please refer to the latest KSD for all applicable labor operations and allowances.
If the appropriate labor operation is not contained in KSD, then a work time labor operation should be used.
