Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but how did you black out the mesh? Did you just remove it and paint with flat black spray paint or? I have thought about doing the same thing but curious how you did it and what it looks like now. Thanks...

The top part(small strip of mesh) you can remove.. but the bottom i tried to figure out how to remove but i just got tired of trying and gave up.. i just stuffed the back part of the mesh with newspaper so none of the paint will get into the filter behind it.. i taped up the entire sorrounding with painters tape..

i just sprayed it with regular "textured" spray paint that i got from home depot for like 6 $. I bought one that was made Rust-Oleum, and under the textured cap of the can it said "No Primer Needed."

yorencer 03-23-2008 03:31 PM

dont forget to tape up the sensors aswell. that would suck if you have to hear that beeping noise 24/7

kimg9582 03-23-2008 05:25 PM

Doesn't X5 3.0si already come with black mesh? I believe 4.8 comes with dark grey mesh. So, not sure why you had to paint over with black? Do you have 3.0 or 4.8?

villajoe 03-23-2008 05:31 PM

all black looks good!

X5 V8 03-23-2008 06:00 PM

No, the non-sport pkg 4.8's come with the same black mesh on the 3.0. Only difference is the titanium kidneys.

yorencer 03-23-2008 06:23 PM

my x5 came with a grey mesh so i thought it would look nicer so i painted it... =)

yorencer 03-23-2008 06:24 PM

should i post pics of my other mods?

I would have traded you, lol. I am looking to either paint or buy the sport pkg mesh.

go to home depot or a hobby shoppe and buy the color of the spray paint.. it really isnt that hard...

calix5fan 03-24-2008 07:53 PM

I hate to break it to you (I really do!) but that paint is gonna start chipping REALLY soon... I also had mine "professionally" painted black and it was severely chipping. They said they'd re-do it but the same problem will occur in a couple of months due to all the pebbles on the floors. So I just ordered the pieces in black today to replace them. Hopefully it won't be too hard to replace the bottom part. By the way, it's only about $50 shipped so it might be worth it instead paying for paint, going through the labor only to find yourself replacing the part later. Hopefully you won't have the same problem but I'm afraid you will

NC_ 03-24-2008 10:58 PM

Do you happen to have the part numbers for the black mesh upper and lowers? I have a 2007 3.0si and was wondering...

xexyus 03-25-2008 04:41 AM

No offense but if you can afford 50k+ for a truck, why settle for spraypaint when you can pay 50$ for the sport mesh?

lakai 03-25-2008 08:19 AM

 I don't notice a difference. either way, I hope you bought a paint for plastics and cleaned it with alcohol or something first, if not, I think you'll be spraying it again sometime soon

Many people don't know you can order these parts seperately... or how inexpensive they are. I personally just found out after contacting Morristown. I don't think it's about saving a buck after spending 50k on a truck like you said.

X5 V8 03-25-2008 08:14 PM

$50 for parts and shipping??? I really want to order the titanium sport mesh. Is it easy to install it on your own? If so, how? I know the dealer will probably charge around $99 for labor.

Thanks

The upper mesh is realllly easy to install... just pops on and off. The lower one seems to be attached to the bumper and installation is more involved. I'm still waiting for the part, then I'm gonna take it to the place that painted them in the first place to install. Even if it's $100 to install it'll be worth it.

yorencer 03-27-2008 01:10 PM

oh really.. then i guess i'll order them... but for now i would jsut settle for the paint.
