Buying X5 but salesman refuse to take credit card deposit
 

I went to a dealership and found the X5 that I wanted but it was at another dealership. Salesman told me he can get the car in his dealership in 3 days. Everything was going fine except when I had to leave a deposit. I wanted to leave a credit card deposit and when I gave him my credit card he left and then came back and said that the sale manager cant do a credit card deposit. I would need cash or debit card. Thing is he should have known before he took my credit card. I told him I dont want to use my debit card, since it seems strange that he cant charge my credit card. So I left there not leaving a deposit. And salesman was fine about me not leaving a deposit. When I got home I call another BMW dealership saying if I wanted a car, would I be able to leave a credit card deposit? Saleman said no problem. Anyone had a problem like this before. Let me know cause it seems strange why I couldn't use my card, and his explanation was just that they cant use it.

I can't imagine them not taking a credit card deposit. When I picked up my E70, I didn't have my checkbook so I used AMEX instead for the $ due at signing. :dunno:

Dont know if I should go back to that salesperson now. I got a good deal too for that car. MSRP was 54,675 and got them to go down 3K.

Same here, I used AMEX to cover my driveoff. The stealership was just trying to make some extra dollars by not accepting the credit card since they don't have to pay the fee that the credit card company will charge them for the transaction. So they must me giving you a really good deal that they cannot afford to loose any more profit from this transaction.

that is ridiculous. I used my AMEX but the dealership never even charged it.

Call that dealership back and ask to speak with the general manager, not the sales manager. He will resolve this for you

I've never had my dealership refuse to take a credit card deposit. I would go above him and ask if that's the dealership's policy or not. And if it is, then I would look for another dealership, as there is something fishy going on. Cash only business is something to be wary of, especially with cars.

Something's amiss at that Stlr...
Most any dlr on the planet will take a legit CC for a deposit/hold,
and few will actually "place" the charge.

In a debit card, that deposit is zinged out of your bank acct.,
and if that stlr dwadled, he could "hold" your deposit dough
until he got around to "releasing" that debit; in the meantime,
your bank acct. is reduced by that debit amount.

I'd tell the GM of that stlr that he's running a shaky operation...
if not satisfaction then, I'd tell 'em to F off.
And, tell the board of this fine dlr, too!
