pls help - how to tell if your E70 has the premium sound package
 

hi everyone...i'm a newbie to X5World...great forum.

but i need help - how can i tell if my E70 has the premium sound package? i can't find the 6 CD changer in the glove box nor in the rear cargo area. dont know if i have 12 or 16 speakers.

also, my E70 was supposed to have ipod integration...is it in the aux input in the center armrest or is it some special connection elsewhere in the vehicle (does the ipod integration package come included with any special wires).

any assistance would be appreciated. thanks.

The iPOD adapter (if fitted from factory) is in the center arm rest storage area. It should include a y-type cable that connects to your iPOD for full integration. If it is installed by the dealer, then it goes in place of the 6 DVD changer in the glove compartment (which is what may have happened since you don't have the DVD changer). To check for premium sound, go to IDRIVE settings menu under audio and see if you have a choice between Stereo and Surround

On my 08 x5, I have Premium Sound and it includes the 6 DVD changer. I didn't think you could get one without the other. The ipod y-adapter cord is in the center console where it plugs in.

I believe premium sound also gives you an equalizer in idrive. My '08 doesn't have an equalizer (stupid if you ask me).

I wouldn't care if I didn't have the equalizer... I don't know what to change the settings to from the default. On this forum, someone posted recommended settings for the E53 but there's no reason to think they might be optimal for the E70 too.

After reading the supplied link, now I am paranoid:

In iDrive, I can choose between stereo and surround. I do not see a choice of 7.1 or 9.1. Can someone confirm if they have other choices in the settings. FWIW, I have a US specced car

It is kind of alerting for me in general if you cant HEAR that you got premium audio...It suggests the premium sound is not obviously superior to the "normal" (which is known to be awful)

You can hear the difference.
