Rust on Brake Callipers

Has anyone else experienced this? My car is 3000 miles/3months old and does! Never seen rusty callipers on any of my previous BMW's.

Yes, that's why I am going to paint them. Even the anti rattle clips are rusting and they're aluminum!

someone pls post pics of an X5 with painted calipers...

sounds like a great idea!!

thinking of painting them red

oh goodie the fake "brembo" look

If you must paint them, IMO, paint them black. If you can pull the caliper entirely off the car, put a cleaner on it and steel wool off as much rust as possible first :)

You may want to try Bavarian Autosport part # TAP003 - Caliper covers - come in three colors and apparently stick over the calipers. It does not specify if they fit X5's. They look like they would last alot longer than paint.....easier too.

I would paint them with high temp silver brake/engine primer and then high temp silver brake/engine paint...if you want to add color buy a big brake kit that will not only improve the look but the stopping power as well.

I think the break dust contains iron and that can get on other parts and show corrosion. i've seen particle/ spot corrosions even on the running boards (they are aluminum of course). brake dust is my guess

I agree, unless you live near a rail yard;)
