The lag is off the line if you kick it but it's short lived and IMO only a lag as compared to the earlier model years (2000-2003 or so) Sports mode, none whatsoever :D MPGs suck, I'm down to 12.5 (4.8i) but I'm having fun.

Blame Valvetronic. While part of it has to do with right foot discipline, Valvetronic certainly softens the throttle response.

Ah so that's what it is. I've always wondered why I hear more issues with lag with newer cars. I've never experienced these problems with cars I've owned prior to 2004.

My first experience with unreasonable lag was in a 04' E320. I got rid of that car once the lease was up. Had a horrible time driving it. I initially blamed it on the bad 5 speed trasmission (newer MB's use the 7 speed). But after speaking to various service techs, attributed the cause to the "adapative transmission".

About to pull the trigger on a 4.8. Keeping my fingers crossed. I guess at least there is DS mode. But gas is so expensive now. Not quite in the financial category as others that have money to burn, but also not in the category of getting a car I can't afford.

i have heard from my tech that if you turn off DSC you can lite up the tires almost instantaneously. the AWD contributes to the "lag" as it must compute traction available prior to launch.

squeeze the throttle, it is not an on /off switch. ;)

I know this very well. If you treat the gas pedal like a switch in my X3 (or older BMWs), you'll give everyone in the car whiplash because the vehicle will jolt forward due to poor foot discipline. My dad is a great example of this. (He blames the gearbox :rofl: )

The AWD X3 2.5i responds better to my right foot than the '06 325i, which has Valvetronic and is rear-wheel drive. Thus, I want to blame it on the new engine system. DSC has no effect on responsiveness.
