PLEASE HELP! STEERING WHEEL PROBLEM

I live in Russia and ordered my car from US. It came with everything possible but with an ugly leather steering wheel.. Oficial dealers in Moscow say that their program does not give the possibility to change the wheel with a new SPORTS steering wheel. Is it possible? Someone please tell me how to find the needed part number.. Thanks in advance to everybody:rolleyes:

You said everything possible - does it have the sports package? If so I don't know why they wouldn't include the sports steering wheel with the aluminum trim on the bottom half of the horn area. Is that what you're looking for?

Yes, that's what I'm looking for and it doesn't vave that package but I want that wheel)) that's why i'm asking, is it really impossible to change it?

Order the steering wheel and the airbag. The latter will be expensive.

They say if the program doesn't show this possibility they are not sure that the airbag will work correctly. At the same time, their program is very stupid and it doesn't show a lot of things.. they say it's refreshed once a year, so i have to wait and no one knows will it show that possibility.. so, are you sure it's that simple?

Did you try the ebay ? Not sure they will sell/ship to Russia, and then will come the challenges around the installation and voiding the warranty... I am pretty sure BMW Russia will try to find any reason why not to service your car under the warranty (or so I heard from my friends there).

Now, to be more helpful, I've tried to search internet for the part number, and did not find anything. It is quite possible certain parts are available through the BMW's internal network only.

I suggest you find your "way" ($$$) to the parts department's manager :)

You know, I would not take the risk. For example, I've just found out that 3.0 and 4.8 (E70) have different brake pads.... It is quite possible that different part number will not work... Again, if the service guys not sure if it will work, I'd probably have to trust them...

thanks again.. i will wait for someone who knows exactly((

I have the same trouble... nobody, not even the dealer seems to know if I can swap steering wheels from my '03 F1 3.0 Sport one to my other X5 06' 5.8 UGLYEST steernig wheel; so I can drive with a bigger smile my 5.8...

Does somebody knows?...

In this thread http://xoutpost.com/pdf/Heated%20whee...rofit.pdftalks someone is doing an instalation the other way: from Sport to Normal, but does not says the model of the X.

Regards

Sport 2003 steering wheel to a 2006 4.8 and vice versa...

Well, I just did it...

I had the Sport steering wheel from my 2003 F1 swapped with the ugly one on my 2006 4.8...

It worked ok, on both X5s:thumbup:

I followed xoutpost.com tutorials and disconnected the battery first, protecting the Airbags; so, when reconnecting the battery, some warning lights lighted on both... but wise me, I did all this at my friend's shop with his scanner, preventing this issue about those lights.

The scanner guy re-calibrated the steering position and cleared all lites. Just a stubborn dsc light on the 4.8 did not went away, so I came back here (xoutpost.com) and found that a short drive around the block fixed it (steering sensor) so I did…

Bigger smile now on my face.:nanana:
