Windows/Moonroof no close with remote

Hi folks, I've searched and have not found the answer.

When I hold down the "unlock" button on my remote, the windows and then the moonroof open. But when I hold the "lock" button down, they do not close. What's up with this? The small "quick manual" states that this should work. The normal manual does not mention it either way.

I also came across someone's posting that I did come across the "cool hidden features posting" that states that this is supposed to work. But I wonder if the poster just posted this from reading the "quick manual" vs. actually trying it.

Can anyone verify if this is/is not supposed to work? My X5 does not have the "comfort access" feature.

The windows and moonroof don't close when you hold down the unlock button, at least here in the US. It's the same reason why you can only close the rear auto tailgate by pressing the button on the actual liftgate and not inside the cabin - BMW trying to reduce their possibility for litigation.

I think you meant the "lock" button. But if this were true...that SUCKS!

Yes, doesn't work in our U.S. models... :(

Muz 04-13-2008 05:11 PM

Works perfect on my UK spec .. all close by holding centre button

nynd 04-13-2008 05:28 PM

I think you need to put the key into the lock and then they will all automatically close (turning in one direction - saw it in manual).

delhite 04-13-2008 08:01 PM

yea its weird -it doesnt work

HaroldC 04-13-2008 08:06 PM

Again - This feature only exists in limited markets. Clearly both the US and Canadian market don't have this feature.

This stinks...It's the same thng on my M3...
I believe(don't quote me) Euro models even come with a rain sensing version, and will close everything up, if it detects rain, and the wipers set to auto...Which I could appreiciate, living in southern Louisiana...

Yup.

whoopy-do 04-14-2008 11:54 AM

works a treat on my 08...

press and hold to open all windows but not roof

if roof is open upon exit ...
press and hold for full closure windows + roof

As it should, US & Canada are the ones that don't get it.....

Those with comfort access can press and hold the lock "sensor" on the door handles to close the windows too.. At least it is so in Canada.

I'll check later on, and post back my results...
But IMO, it's pretty pointless... If you're standing close enough to hold the lock button on the door. might as well get it and press the accessory on and close everything with the automatic features. Instead of standing there with your finger on the button.
Using the key FOB at distance would be the ticket(like the Euro models)... I will check this as well.

Yes, it works great with comfort access. I found it useful when I realized one of the windows or the sunroof was left open. I run outside with the key and just touch (hold) the top of the doorhandle to close (everything). It's a nice convenience, but of course not completely necessary.

The reason why they probably allow this to work and not the remote is because you can visually verify nothing is in the way, instead of standing 25ft away and doing it.

Ok, we've established that the windows/moonroof won't close with the remote for US/Canadian models... THAT SUCKS... But I am thinking that this should be an "easy software setting". Does anyone know if this is a setting that the dealer can do?

MRV99 07-09-2009 12:21 AM

There is not a BMW in the USA that has the press and close feature like the press and open. It has been talked about in almost every forum out there. UK yes USA no...

That shouldn't matter. The windows will not close if something is in the way. Try it. Stick your arm in the window and hit the auto up. The window will not close, if it's working correctly. It's a built in safety feature.

Yes. Someone stated before. When I press and HOLD the lock ridges sensor on my door handle, the windows & moonroof would close.

MRV99 07-18-2009 02:07 PM

This has nothing to do with have someones arm get caught. It is so you can verify who is or is not in your car before you leave it. This is 100% lawyer based and mention to reduce lawsuits

Try the guys over at EAS (Tom and Jurrian), they may be able help, not sure.
They were able to reprogram the key on M3 cabriolets to allow the roof to be opened and closed remotely.
