Trunk lights won't turn off

The X5 is being a pain today.

It started with the locks, the X5 refuses to flash the lights or beep at me when I hit lock, even though it is set to do that. Now, it is telling me every 5 seconds that the trunk is open, when it is clearly latched. The trunk lights do not turn off either. So, I'm guessing if they don't turn off tonight, it will be dead in the garage tomorrow. Nice.

Any ideas?

Must be the sensor in the hatch. Open the hatch, look around the perimeter, I believe it is on top ledge just below the roof. Clean them up, try again.

Ok, so I slammed the hatch down as hard as I possibly could. It latched, but now the car is messed up. Sometimes it unlocks. Sometimes it dosen't. Sometimes the trunk opens. Other times I need to use the emergency escape handle to open it.

"I slammed the hatch down as hard as I possibly could" might not be the best possible solution. You should have probably listened to Alex.

It fixed everything.
Everything was clean..and I sprayed a tiny amount of WD40.

???? What fixed everything ?

Slamming it down very hard, starting it up and driving, having the doors auto lock, then parking and locking. Everything is fine now. :dunno:
And btw the battery didn't die. Those lights turned off at some point in the night.
Thanks for the suggestions.

So you do have a loose sensor somewhere... The problem may come back...

trueX5er 04-27-2008 11:23 PM

yeah, thanks, I'll have it checked out soon.

Mind you this just happened a few days after it returned from the dealer after getting all the parking sensors replaced..
