Curious wheelwell question
 

I've noticed from the first delivery day of my 4.8i,,

But what are those slits/ grooves on the inside of the wheelwell for??

I see them on my X and some Lexus SUV's as well. Does anyone know??

Are they for the mud flaps? (Only a guess)

If you look closely, there are somewhat aerodynamically grooved slits or openings right inside the wheelwell. they are almost like fins to control air flow. I'm just not sure what they are and why they are there

They are there for the diesel turbo model. Intercooler.

its to do with the oil cooler i believe comes with sport package (atlast in the 3er)

oh.. I have a 4.8i with sports package. aren't they in the rear wheel-wells too?

If it's on the drivers side wheelwell at the front, it's the air exhaust for the A/C condensor I think
