Typical Mileage on Custom Built Car Orders
For those of you that order a custom built car.
What is the typical mileage that the car has when you take delivery? Is 22 miles on it normal? Sounds kinda high. Sounds like the dealer's used it to give test drives / joy rides. |
That does seem high. The few times I bought a car that had "just arrived" or special ordered a colour or option packages, the car had about 6 or 7 miles on it. One time, the mileage was even 3. 22 seems wrong. Sorry!

Thanxs. Yeah. I did think 22 miles was alot.
One stupid reason why I went the custom built route vs one off the lot was because I wanted a car that wasn't abused during test drives (planning on keeping the car for a while). I know the manual often states that you don't want to go past a particular rpm during break-in period. |
Our X5 (custom ordered) had 10 miles on it at delivery.
|
I have 7 miles on my custom built X5 4.8
|
My custom order had 6 miles on arrival. One of the influencing factors is how close the nearest gas station is to your dealer.
|
Remember, with cleints requesting a tracker device, optional wheels and window tinting, the car will be driven to the various locations.
Cheers, |
according to the documemtary on NGTV, all X5's are test driven at the plant. IIRC the mileage should be 8 or 9 miles upon leaving the factory.
it would be very unproffessional of the dealer to use your vehicle for test drives. my salesman mistakenly let me drive a 3.0 that had been sold and the sales manager called him on the phone within about 1.5 minutes. we promptly returned to the lot. mine had 17 when i picked it up. i hate to add to your paranoia, but maybe the Tech found something in the PDI and he needed to road test the vehicle. call your salesman and ask him why the extra miles. |
Mine had 15 miles on when I took delivery last Thursday, that is about right if thet do 8 at the factory, 4 miles for some DERV and 3 round the block (Through the vilage and up or down the bypass)after PDI = 15 miles.

I believe it was 4mi.
