I see that it has to do with the light in the trunk button, but anyway, try unlocking the car--just a wild guess. It might "wake it up" per se. I'll try that if mine ever pulls this stunt on me.

Jasonrhcastle: so now that you have it fixed by the dealer, do you still need to close the bottom half with force for the upper auto tailgate to function?
