Question About 2008 X5
Hello Guys:
Can you tell me if it is ok to order a 2008 X5 right now (middle of May) or shoud I just wait until the 2009 comes out? Do you know if they are going to be any changes? Also do you have an idea when will it come out or when can I place the order? Thanks. |
You can, but I myself would wait for the 2009.
Nobody knows if there are going to be any changes, but I would not be surprised if they put the improved engines/X-drive system of the X6 into the 2009 X5. I have no information to support this, but it would seem to make sense with them being built in the same plant, and considering the demand/competition trend in the X5 vehicle segment. |
it won't be a typical Sept order for 09 models.... BMW has always waited till the last possible day to release pricing & options for their new models...
i had to wait till mid November of 07 to order an 08 with autotailgate. if you can wait till close to the end of the year...i would wait to order an 09.. i haven't heard anything either but i would bet it will be nothing more than some software updates and some minor technical enhancements... as for engine setup, i predict they will focus more on the X6 and let that run its course before doing anything with the X5 for 2009... |
Waiting is a vicious cycle...
Personally, I don't see the point of waiting to buy the next model year car, especially this early in the year.
To me, buy the car now and outfit it with the options that you want because you'll be making the same decisions about the car now that you would be making later. For example, if you wanted the panoramic moonroof, leather, autodim mirrors, and BMW Assist for the '07 model, you would have had to order the Premium Package. Now for '08, the panoramic moonroofs are standard, but you still want the Premium Package for the leather and autodim mirrors, and BMW Assist. Another example, sure they could offer the 300hp twin turbo engine they have for the X6 xdrive35, but if you wanted 300hp, why not opt for the V8 now (and have the lovely growl of eight cylinders)? If you wait for the '09, what's stopping you from waiting for the '10 model. If you wait for the '10 model, what's stopping you from waiting for the '11 model. If you keep waiting, pretty soon you've waited enough that the only way you can get a E70 is through CPO. |
wait for the 2020... the aerokit will be replaced with real wings!!:D

They will want to carve out the niche for the X6 without compromising its position of confusing the market |
If ever you decide to buy the 2008 X5 now, I'm sure you won't regret it if the 2009 X5 comes out. Why? Because you are buying a good product.
Also, if you can wait for late this year, that means you are really not in a a hurry. You can probably wait until both are available in the market and choose which one suits your taste (and budget). You'll be happy either way. Good Luck. |
If you can buy one off the lot, now (month of May) would be your best opportunity in saving some money. There is a price increase for all models (except 1 and X6) that will go into affect on June 1st 2008 (in effect for ordered cars as of May 9th). Plus there is a premium options credit for the X5! So an invoice/under invoice deal may be possible.
But if there isn't a car on the lot that is configured to your satisfaction and you have to order. Then these are the things that you'll want to consider: 2009 will get MyInfo (the BMW assist feature that allows you to send navigation addresses from Google to your Nav). 2009 MIGHT (low probability for 2009, higher for 2010) get the new revised iDrive controller with buttons. 2009 MIGHT (even lower probability) get soft-close doors & M-Sport body kit (as the European models do) 2009 MIGHT get new interior trim. If you can wait till Nov/Oct, I would. But if those things don't matter to you or you can't wait. A 4.8 is very nice (and should make you happy even if the TT6 gets to the X5). |
