metallic knocking from rear wheels?
I noticed today (as my wife pulled away from the house) that there was a distinctive metallic knocking sound coming from the back of the vehicle. I checked all the lugs - they were tight.
So I called the dealer and the service guy said, "oh yeah that's the brake booster building up pressure at low speeds". True enough the sound goes away once you get up above 20 mph or so. So, um, does that sound right to you guys? It's a 3.0si with sport. I feel compelled to take it in anyway. It doesn't seem right to me. |
I would not hesitate in taking it in
You cant be sure enough with those sort of noises - and if it is the brake booster, I 'aint heard it before - so maybe mine is broke?!!!??? |
and the problem is...
we had the SUV into the dealer today - the sound we were hearing was the TPM sensor rattling around inside the tire.
So how did that happen? Well the dealer found a small scrape/cut in the tire sidewall. They are suggesting that we hit a pothole and the tire took the impact. In taking the impact, the tire hit the monitor and knocked it loose from the valve stem. Sounds surprising to me, but I'm not sure what else to say. The cost? $240 for a new tire, $70 for a new TPM sensor, $20 for a new valve stem, weights and tire disposal, $60 in labor. Great. I really wanted to pump $400 into a brand new car  |
