Bluetooth Issue

I picked up my X5 3.0si at the factory in SC (Nov '07) and the delivery specialist paired my Palm 700p (Verizon) immediately. The pairing was not complete as my address/contacts did not transfer but at least I could use hands free calls thru the car's speakers. Last week my phone crashed and Verizon gave me a new 700p. This phone will not pair at all! I've called the local dealer and the delivery specialist at BMW at the factory....no luck.

One, any ideas? Two, my contract with Verizon is up June 7th. BMW does not update their "approved phones" very often. ANy ideas for other smart phones like the iPhone or Blackberry models?

If you've not already done so, delete any current reference in your iDrive to the (old) Palm and start over to pair the phone with the iDrive system. I don't know any other tricks to make things work.

I have a Treo 650 (uses Palm OS, not Windows Mobile) and the address book will not load at all. However if I transfer key contacts into the favorites part of the program, those more limited number of contacts will show up. Hope some of this helps!

I use a Samsung I760 (Verizon) with Windows Mobile 6. Though it was not on the 'approved' list, it pairs and sychs flawlessly. (I have a 2008 X5)

I am very happy with the phone too.

My Stealer told me that most smart phones wont sync.. my Nokia N95 certainly wont :( I get all the call functions ok ... just no phone book

Hey Robert - I had a similar issue. You have to remember the pin code that you used to pair the 1st phone when you try to pair the second phone. If you can't, you have to go to the dealership to get your BT pin reset.

I have a Treo 700p. No problem pairing with my 08x5. Initially I had a problem but as soon as I found the instructions online I was set. You choose the pin during setup. On our previous 05 x5 you had to get the pin from the dealer. Not on this one. I picked the code. Delete the previous phone first. The pairing process was different than before. Follow the instructions exactly.

Here's a link to pairing directions from the BMW site:http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...HowtoPair.aspx

I've paired many smartphones to my X5. I've paired a Motorola Q, a Motorola Q9c, a Verizon SMT5800, a Sprint Mogul, and a Vox. All of these are Windows Mobile devices. All had phone book integration.

Blackberries work the most flawless with it, I havent tried an Iphone which I am sure works flawless as well.
Any recent blackberry will give you full synchronisation of contacts.
I have connected many different phones and many do work as well, but with many others I have had problems with contacts that had multiple numbers, BT picked one and never imported any info about other number.
With Blackberry it imported all unique numbers and if you had the same number twice for your contact it ignored the info.

Proveg, which Nav unit did this work on? I mean showing the additional numbers on your contacts? I have an e46 M3 with the Mk4 nav and bluetooth, with my Nokia 6300 it syncs the contacts however some of my contacts have more than one number stored and there doesn't seem to be a way of viewing them to select the one you want to call. When hit the call button on the contact name it phones their default number. The only way round it is for me to input duplicate contact names for each of their numbers which doubles the size of my list and scroll time!

Verizon XV6800 (Sprint Mogul) pairs ok. The only issue I've seen is a delay in accepting a call.

Once you get the 700P paired maybe you should put
some of your tele#s in the palm address book favorite
section of the phone. That's what I had to do and it
downloaded all the numbers. I don't
believe addresses will be downloaded though.

Just a suggestion. Using the search feature can pull up some interesting
answers. Xoutpost.com - Search Results

This info is fairly recent BMW North America

I have E70 which is a later version of X5 although I think just few month ago, they may have had an update. E46 may have older generation Bluetooth so dont know how well those work.
To add, Since my post, I have tried Bold, all versions of Curve as well as Storm and all worked flawlessly. I have also tried to sync Nokia Arte and that only synced the first of the contacts with same name so if I had two numbers for a person, only one would show up.
Samsung Innov8 from what I remember worked fine, although by now I dont remember, went through too many phones and no matter how you slice it, my preference is Blackberry although not the storm.

bmwman3241 05-11-2009 07:57 AM

My 2 iPhone sync perfectly.

BTW, I think the BMW navigation should have a calendar and maybe notes or calculator or something. I know Acura has it, and it comes in handy.

ravenheart 05-11-2009 11:33 AM

My Blackberry storm works perfectly. My wife's does not (it wont upload her contacts) because she had an IT policy (set of rules that limit access and connectivity) on the phone. She is getting a blank IT policy one of these days to fix the issue.

So be aware that corporate phones may not work with BT :)

AwesomeM3 05-11-2009 01:52 PM

I have a Motorola Krave which syncs perfectly with my E92 M3; however, with my E70 X5 the phonebook won't sync. :wtf:

Not sure if that's true. I have paired 3 BB's my work one, then my wives, then the new one from work. it has never asked for the origianl 4 digit pin.
