Does your X5 wobble in the wind?

Does your X5 Wobble in the wind? (referring to wind that hits your car from the side of the car while your driving)

I was reading over at Bimmerfest. A couple guys have been complaining about the X5's wobbling when the wind blows.

Two weeks ago, I felt the same thing at a BMW Ultimate Drive event in the X5 diesel. Really made the car feel a bit unstable than other cars.

Just curious what your opinions on this is.

Nope, my X5 does not wobble in the wind.

I've driven in excess of 90mph with pretty strong side winds and the E70 was as stable a rock...

mine does in a stiff wind over 75mph...and so does the half dozen or so that I have driven.

Have you owned SUVs before? The X is not a car, it takes up a larger area. There's more metal and glass to block sideways wind flow so you will feel heavy wind much more so than in a car. My Xs do much better in the wind than my Jeeps and Jimmy did. The wind used to throw my Jimmy around like it was an empty paper bag.

Maybe I should have noted that mine was "as a stable as a rock" compared to other SUVs that I've driven at speed including Mercedes ML, Ford Explorer, Ford Expedition, Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, etc.

solid as a rock. but then again in Cali-ko. there are no strong winds. ;)

no wobble... but like everyone said, it's not a sports car!!

i have no issues with it even at 80mph!

but you will feel a strong cross draft.... it still sits higher and has a bigger foot print...

Thanxs for the comments.

We have a previous gen ML in the family. I never felt the wobble in this SUV. This is not to say that I haven't been pushed over an inch or two when a strong wind gust hits the car while doing 80 mph.

I just thought it was weird to feel a wobble in such a heavy vehicle as the X5. Then reading about others experiencing this started to make me wonder.

Perhaps it was just the combination of wind speed, vehicle speed and direction that caused the wobble. Luckily (as hpjunkie) put it, we don't have too much wind here normally, so it's all good. Just curious about others experience. :)

No, this thing is built like a tank. Most BMWs are bred on the autobahn and are designed for stability at high speeds, just like Benzes and Audis. A 5,000lb SUV would be the most stable you can get :)

Great point! Wobble must be a fluke or some small reaction to wind that would have caused other cars to shift/move in it's path.
