poll- which configuration to order

:dunno:

3.0si- Black saph/black perf. nev/bamboo trim/vent. seats/cold weather/prem. pkg/sport pkg/tech package

4.8-black saph/black nev./bamboo/sport pkg/tech pkg/heated frnt/bmw assist

difference in price only about three grand, with order date coming up i cant decide which... any opinions much appreciated

kimg9582 06-18-2008 03:26 PM

For 3 grand, I would go with 4.8 or go with 4.8 and drop Sport Pkg

chonko 06-18-2008 04:00 PM

4.8i is what I will go with. If you do not intend on geting it now and will be willing to wait for another 4 months, then I will suggest getting the 3.5i.

X5audi 06-18-2008 04:02 PM

4.8i, no question. Negligible difference in MPG for a huge difference in performance. I agree, drop the sprt pckg and get some extra goodies--that is, unless you really want those rims.

rh71 06-18-2008 04:22 PM

I wouldn't hesitate to order the 4.8i if you don't mind the gas. $3k is chump change for what you get in the performance. $9k is a different story (if ordering identical options). BUT, I'd be scared of the jerkiness of the transmission being reported all over the place. Cross your fingers.

What is the 3.5i? Is this the diesel?

Yeah. If gas doesn't bother you, the 4.8i is nice.

peanuto 06-18-2008 06:15 PM

Gas wouldnt be a huge issue. I wish they would just throw in the twin turbo (which could be the 3.5?) and that would solve my power thirst, as for a diesel though, I am not too big of a fan

LeMansX5 06-18-2008 06:23 PM

Are you getting 2008 or 2009?

AzNMpower32 06-18-2008 06:38 PM

Get the diesel with sport package. I'm not a fan of many options either. Is the tech package that pertinent?

Navigation 100% is and rear park sensor is pretty vital considering I live in a city and paralell park 2-3 times daily it is a big help. I looked at what those two options are independent of the package and it is the same as the package so i may as well get the other goodies thrown in there for free

I will be ordering in a month, so whichever is for sale then I guess

LAinVA 06-18-2008 08:07 PM

The will 4.8 deliver daily driving satisfaction. However, consider this thought that kept repeating in my head last week as the DC area temperature hovered near 100 degrees. If only I had ordered the vented seats...I wouldn't have swamp backside everytime I get out of my truck.

That would still be 2008. Go for 4.8.

3.5i is the designation for the X5 with the N54 engine (I6 TT petrol engine in the 535/335/135). I believe the 2009 models will recieve the N54 engine.

The difference in the MPG figures between 3.0i and 4.8i when driving are not that much, the advantage of the 3.0i I believe is when you are stuck in traffic as you burn less petrol.

Doesn't the V8 shut down to 4 cylinders when not in use?

I honestly don't know if it does.

Nope. BMWs don't do that.

 thanks.

QWKNESS 06-19-2008 12:19 AM

I'd say the 4.8 for 3K, the 3.0 is nice but it could use more punch for sure! The N54 would be great to have in this truck, but I think the 3.5d is the one to have. 452 lb/ft of torque... sick!!!! That's more than the V-8 M3 and will get better fuel economy. I am looking to get a 335d when they come out then when our X5 3.0L lease is up get the wife an X5 3.5d then brew my own home brew bio-diesel and tell OPEC to F-off!

X5audi 06-19-2008 02:48 AM

^It's not exactly hard to have more torque than the M3

That is the American spirit, and that is why I love this country. For all its flaws just like every country, it is the strong spirit of the people that give America its unique identity.I love the spirit of the people- the can do mentality.

y5choi 06-19-2008 11:25 PM

4.8i. forget the diesel, the MPG perks isn't even there realistically anymore now that diesel price is higher.
anyway, for 3000 more you get a higher residual after so get the 4.8i.

check this thread out for residuals
