3.0L X5 Gas Mileage

1. 3.0L X's what kind of numbers are you seeing in town/hwy or combo?
2. How many miles are on your X?
3. Do you use Premium or Regular Unleaded?

I have about 500 miles, getting only 17-18 mix of freeway and in town driving it pretty easy! I am trying 87 octane regular unleaded this tank and see what happens.

I get 19 around town and 23.9 to 24 on the hiway. (70mph)
I dont get on it hard , just drive it normal. I hate filling it up...

At the very beginning I was only showing 14-15mpg but now I'm showing 16.3mpg on my trip computer for the last 900 miles or so. I have just under 2k mileage on it. Drive mostly around town only but I'm light on the pedal for the most part. I'd be happy with 18mpg at some point... right now it's still better than my other car at 14mpg.

Oh I use all premium, but 1 time used mid-grade and felt / showed absolutely no difference.

I'm pretty sure the check engine light can come on with continued use of 87 octane gasoline. Also, you're really only saving a couple of bucks per fillup, so it's not worth it! BMW requires a minimum rating of 91. The dealership said using lower than 91 does something to the oxygen sensor (don't know if it's true or not). My cousin put 87 fuel in her 325i for a while "trying" to save money, and the check engine light came on. The dealership charged her to reset it (even though she was under her new car warranty!)

1. 17 mpg (city driving) haven't taken it on the highway yet
2. 830 miles
3. premium

I've had my 3.0si since January and have 12,000 miles. I am getting 19.5 mpg with probably 70/30 highway/city driving. With every thousand miles I get, I am getting a noticeable improvement in mpg.

Also, I ONLY use Premium Fuel. Preferably Shell V-power if readily available.

I don't about the "check engine" light will coming on, but I am sure the mpg will go to crap.
I have tried with my 3 series and the difference is approximately 4mpg drop from premium to 87

I have 12K and get about 24 hwy and 15 street driving.

I won't even dare put any gas other than 91.

1) The trip computer says I'm getting 17.8 MPG. My actual calculation however shows 16.87. I'm using excel and inputs the data everytime I gas up.

2) I have driven it for 3500 miles since I got it last December. It's mixed city and highway.

3) I only use premium gas, usually from Chevron.

boy, you're all getting much better mileage than i have experienced..

i'm pushing 3k miles... with about 60/40 city/highway... and i'm still registering around 14mpg..

i am a little heavy on the pedal though... i don't cruise i enjoy driving! (but not to the point where i'm reckless)

and on the highway i average 70-75..

guess i need to slow things down just a bit....

i do expect it to get better though...
