Water between door seals

Here are photos of one of the problems with my X5 that the dealer says "it the nature of the beast" and it not getting in to the cabin so it is really not a problem. See my previous posting (Numerous problems, no fixes) for more photos of the water problem.

design flaw... dealers can't do anything about this, of course.

It happens to me too, only after a heavy rain and only the rear doors.

Is water getting inside the car? If not, why is this an issue?

cmyX6go 07-06-2008 09:39 AM

No. Interior is dry. I thought it odd but never even mentioned it to the dealer. When I open a rear door after a hard rain some water runs off the sill and onto the pavement but that's it.

OP said his cabin is dry also.

Not an issue, or a design flaw IMO.

This happens to mine too. It isnt a problem until the water freezes in the winter and you cant get the doors open!! Dealer told me the drains were operating "fine" and "could not reproduce the problem".

y5choi 07-06-2008 03:56 PM

yup, it does that on mine as well, My headlights fog up (or has condensation build up) on the inside as well sometimes. I just ignore it though..

Doors that hold water.

Doors that hold water should not be a design feature of a $56,000 vehicle. BMW has to develop a fix for this problem. Why do some vehicles has the problem with both doors and some with only one of the doors? Sounds like a build problem.

Maybe it's tied to the fact that you (maybe just me) have to give the rear doors a real slam to get them to close. If I try and close them with a 'normal' push like I do on the fronts they never seam to 'catch' and I have to try again with more effort.

Maybe I just need to work out more.... :dunno:

This is on a March 08 build E70.
