4.8 Jerky transmission & towing question
Guys ... I towed with my X for the first time yesterday, excellent drive, and very comfortable experience  I am an experienced driver.. and tow.. er and I noticed that my transmission behaved completely differently to its usual style.
Peeps have complained here (including me) about how rubbish the shifting pattern of the 4.8 can be, and I know that after a factory tow bar gets fitted .. the ecu gets updated, presumably to alter the shift characteristics for when towing,.. could this be a primary reason for some peeps finding the shifting so bad ? It held ratios for much longer, for ages sometimes, and frankly was quite smooth at times,.. although that could have been due to the load it was pulling,... But OMG :yikes: the fuel consumption :yikes: 13 MPG :yikes: It was struggle to make it between gas stations :yikes: Your thoughts ? |
Hi there......
What you SHOULD be doing, when towing, is use the DS mode, and shift manually... The car can't know what load you have in a trailer / caravan. I agree with your comments on normal mode, and that is whY change gears myself.... works well.... |
