X6 paddleshift retrofit

Has anyone determined if the X6 paddleshift setup can be retrofitted to the E70. I'd love to have them. You would think the X6 uses the same steering wheel. Hopefully, BMW pre-wired the steering column for this option.

yes you may retrofit the paddleshift but you might have to change the whole steering wheel if I'm not mistaken.

I did m3 steering wheel with paddleshift on my 4.4 Hartge X5 E53 before and it worked well.

you need new switch column and the steering wheel from X6 with paddles or the streering wheel from E90/E92 with paddles and the CUSTOM wiring harness ( NO pre-wired )

Custom harness? I would have assumed BMW would have used the same wiring harness to save on manufacturing different harnesses. Is that not the case?

I doubt they have one wiring harness for both cars as that would have a lot of redundancy (and cost) built into it for lower spec cars which is generally the majority of cars sold. As an example relatively few cars have the factory fit rear DVD player....I am almost 100% sure that the redundant wiring is not their on cars that dont have it fitted.

If BMW can extract cost savings by only having no redundancy in the cars they would definitely do it. Whoever supplied BMW with the wiring harness will have all the problems of supplying wiring for all the different specs.
