Newbie w/ dumb question?! Need help!!
 

Hey all, I've had my X5 for a little over a month so far and it has been great, but I have just one problem!! I'm a marathon runner and I run about 100 miles a week...Well I live on the east coast right on the beach and I like to run on the oceanfront a lot for the softer surfaces...Anyways, with all my other cars, when I go run I would just put my keys up under the running boards, etc. and they I would go. Although now, I have the comfort access and so if I were to leave the keys under the running boards, etc., then someone could just walk up and put their hand on the door handle and it would open! The average person may not know that but any other BMW owner may. If I take my key with me and put it in the back of my shorts, I'm worried about it getting messed up during my run. (I run sub 6:00 mile pace while training and sweat a lot!). Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with my key when running? Also, if I pull our the valet piece and just carry that, then wont the alarm go off when I go to open the door?

They inside of the key has a silicone-gelly like protective cover that protects the electric parts on the inside. iwas pushed into a pool before and it still works. so i dont think that sweating will do anything to the key.

Not to sound sarcastic but depending on what your insurance deductable is, wouldn't it be cheaper to get a new key fob than replace a new E70?

But to keep it simple, how about bringing one of those ziplock sandwich bags and put the fob in the bag, inside your pocket.

As said above, put it inside a little bag and then pocket it. :)

Is there a way to disable the comfort access unlock feature?

vabeachrunner, why do you think the valet key would set off the alarm? Isn't it made to open a locked door? If not, what can it be used for? Test it at home first, but I think that's your best bet.

i did the plastic bag thing which i have done in the past with other keys but the only problem is, the pockets in the back of the nike shorts i wear aren't that big and on days like today when i'm doing 20+ miles, i have to carry fuel packs for during the run...for now i can put the key in my friends car when im meeting someone but on days when im by myself, im still trying to figure something out...i thought about pulling the piece of the key out of the fob and carrying that but with comfort access, if you leave the fob in the car, won't it not let you lock it??

I don't run 20 miles, but for 6-9, just taking the plastic part of the key and putting it in my pocket works just fine, I leave the metal key part and the keychain in the car somewhere.

Quit running so far. It is bad for your joints anyway. :stickpoke

Could you try to tie the key to your wrist and run with it that way?
