Your Gas tank

Have you ever rented or borrowed a car and when arriving at the petrol station wondered...mmm, which side is the petrol filler cap?

My normal solution was to stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look, try to see in the side mirrors or even get out of the car!!!!
Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the petrol station or put your neck at risk of discomfort or injury.

If you look at your petrol gauge, you will see a small icon of a petrol pump? The handle of the petrol pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the petrol pump?

If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left? If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right (see photo).

It is that simple!

If that is true, then thank you!

Only one issue... The thing on the BMW is in the middle!

I think 888 meant that you need to look at the gas pump icon on your dash to see which side the nozzle is coming off of. For example both of my BMW's have the nozzle on the right side of the pump and my filler cap is on the right side.

Ford's all have a small triangle/arrow which points to the side with the fuel cap.

I remember my father first telling me this when I started driving many years ago.

Good to know...

Thanks...I travel often and rent cars. Hate having to re-maneuver after finding out that the pump is on other side.

Ford started it several years ago, when they owned Hertz and the rental agency was their largest customer for the Taurus. These days most cars in rental fleets have the indicator, at least the last cars I rented did (VW, Mazda, Chrysler, Mustang, etc). Not sure about the Impala two weeks ago, but then it was a terrible car in any case.

Everytime I have a rental or borrowing a car that need gas, I stick my head out and half the time I can't see it. So I take a 50/50 chance and park it by the pump and hope I went to the correct side. 50% of the time I get back in and move the car. Never knew about this, thanks 888!
