Advice/input would be appreciated.
I casually stopped by the local dealer yesterday to inquire about 2009 and possibly put a deposit on one. I am mainly interested in Diesel. Long story short. They had on the lot a 2008 X 4.8 with nearly every feature I wanted except for few:
X5 4.8 (Black sapphire, Tobacco) - Tech, Sport, 20”, Premium, Premium sound, Cold pkg, Rear climate, 3rd row seats, comfort access, Sat radio, auto tailgate, running boards, USB/iPOD adapter. - MSRP of $73,370 (invoice around 67500) - Odometer of 110mi How I wind up discussing the 4.8 is a different story, but this is how they get to be in sales and earn their money. The questions are: 1. Negotiated price we reached was $68,000 is that a good deal? 2. The ODO having 110 miles, is that Demo territory or is OK for a new car to have that much? 3. When I went to build the car on Edmunds, the MSRP was $73,570 instead of $73,370. Two hundred discrepancy is not a big deal, but does that say that the car was built before the recent BMW price increase? I am supposed to stop by tomorrow to appraise my car for the trade-in and close the deal. I thought I had a good deal but now I am having second thoughts. What do you guys think?? Thanks in advance for everyone’s input. |
i think 68000 is a good deal :) my new car was only with 16 miles

No idea if price is "good"; what's good for you?
The 110 miles gives evidence of a few lunch runs and/or demo rides, or trips home by the sales mgr or, the secretary of the week. If they are selling it as "new" with in service date of "now", I wouldn't blink an eye, if that's the car you want. GL,mD |
isn't there still a $2500 premium package incentive? Given this being an end of the year inventory plus this incentive, you should be able to get at least $2500 below invoice. Then again, they may get you on the trade-in.
Frankly, I would wait for the 2009 model year since it's right around the corner. |
new idrive in march too if you can wait it - diesels will prob be into next year with the delay too.

Thanks for the feedback:
-Price: Seems there is some room, but if the trade in pricing is fare, it will not be an issue. -Milage: Seems that 110mi is on the high end, but still not ubnormal -New I-drive is something worth waiting for but if everything goes well it is not a deal breaker. I'll update every one tomorrow on how it goes! Thanks! |
NO way man. I'd definitely go down further than the invoice price. I mean it's got 110 miles on it. As soon as i drove my new x5 off the lot, my insurance company depreciated it 10% (classified as used)

I wouldn't worry about 110 miles at all. The only thing that matters is how much you get on the trade, ie the cash difference. The price is OK, but without knowing the trade price you only have half the info. |
Update!
I had a good conversation at the dealer today and this is how it went:
- MSRP 73,570 - Invoice ~67,550 - Trade-in 18,000 (Kbb value of 18,500) - Permium Package (~ 1680) - Negotiated price 66,055 (Invoice - premium pkg) - Out the door price 51,480 - Pick up on Thursday or Friday (travel schedule permitting) Hope this information helps those who are in the process I am one HAPPY camper :D |
