A little bit of bling...
1 Attachment(s)
I am not usually one to make any changes to a car - I much prefer the stock appearance but in the case of my 3.0D E70 I just thought the grill needed a little something.
So, my answer has been to add stick on chrome styling strips to the leading edge of the black plastic grill slats. I think this makes all the difference, what do you think? Total cost £7 (from Ebay) for 3m of 7mm strip, 20 minutes to cut to length & apply. Cheaper than a replacement Titanium grill and, personally, I think it looks better with the Silver paint. looks good

Looks good - I'm not sure if the all chrome grill is an option but it should be a standard on the E70
|
do the real chrome grills actually feel like metal or hard plastic?
|
you talking about the 'titanium' grill? definitely plastic
|
Looks really good. The chrome accented black slats definitely look like they have more depth and more aggressive than the all 'titanium' grills.

Very nice, classy look

Am I the only person ho thinks it is discusting???
I had my blacks replaced by the titanium and this way they have the exact same look as the other titanium grills below. |
looks good!

I think it looks really good. I might consider getting myself one...

got a silver x myself and was looking at this though the chap on e-bay selling it in the us seems to come and go. would u be able to advise where/whom u got it from. thanks heaps

I had my X5 done as well and it came out very well. Just remember, when you need to trim to fit, make sure you cut the top rather than the bottom. This way, the visible part (bottom) has the clean original cut which will be flush with the grill frame. Also, make sure you stick it from bottom up. Just my 2 cents.

I bought the strips from a UK Ebay shop:
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Quality-Car-Accessories The product is a Chrome Styling Strip although they sell the same item for use on different cars. The strip is 7mm wide (just right for the grill slats), slightly convex and comes in a roll 3m long. The front is metalic and the strip is easily cut with scissors or a knife. Kimg9582 is spot on with how to fit the strips - cut at an angle to minimise any gap between the strip and the chrome frame. I did see the American Ebayer selling strips specifically for the E70. I don't know if the product is basically the same or different in any way. Glad the majority agrees with me on this cheap and simple mod. Simon |
the 'American' version is pre-cut, but still need little trimming to fit.
|
What a fantastic idea! If they are approved for outdoor/automotive use and also weatherproof- all the better.

^ thx, very borderline on my decision... I kinda like the black/white contrast and these are $40 shipped... aren't the real things at $70? Would be a great deal if it were $15 for stickers.
|
look little harder. I got mine for $29 bid plus shipping (don't select "buy it now" and save $5. I think the titanium grill costs about $130.
|
Done a little searching and it seems a couple of companies are selling on Ebay from UK (another example: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Angelsales-London) with shipping to US for around $18 total. Don't know what taxes you then need to pay - I have only bought in the opposite direction and generally avoided paying for additional taxes for small value items.

My 2008 328cic has a grill exactly like this "look." BMW does this on other autos. I think it looks great! Definitely looking into this for my 3.0.
