3.0 MPG
I would like to know what kind of MPG people are getting on their X5 3.0s. I got 12.66 MPG on a mostly all city driving. On an all highway trip I got around 18MPG.
Is this normal? Does MPG get better? It is a brand new 2008 model which I have had for about 2 months now... Love the SAV so far but this MPG is way worse than I anticipated! |
This has been oft-discussed.......
Give the motor about 10k miles to break-in to better fuel consumption. Fuel consumption will continue to decrease little by little for the next thousands of miles. |
For reference I get 19.5 combined mpg on my 2008 3.0si. I have a little over 17,000 miles now. The mileage will get better in time.

I got 15.3 mpg average on my 2008 3.0si. It is about 750 miles now. :D
|
22,000 on mine, best was 30.2 mpg :D on a 240 mile trip, mainly motorway miles, and ave on a normal week its 22 mpg combined. Thats measured in english mpg
|
5000 on mine. On my 3500 mile trip, I got 21 MPG at the best and 19.5 MPG at the worst. I was driving at 85 MPH, so I'm sure that didn't help.
So far mixed driving is around 18. It is getting a little better with each tank as it breaks in. |
my 2008 X5 has 550 miles and I get 15.5, mostly city driving and driving it gently.
|
3k miles and doing about 17mpg now. It has definitely been improving over time as I used to get 15ish.
|
Thanks for the responses everyone. I am glad to hear it will get a little better. I felt as though I should have just got the 4.8, given the MPG I am currently getting, glad to hear things will get a little better. I am currently at 2,500miles on the ODM.
|
Don't know why the difference but my 2007 delivered 19mph from the start
however the 2008 with 500 miles is getting 16.5 combined highway/city. The tail pipe on the 2008 is clean - the 2007s always looked a diesel stack. |
