New nav DVD before Dec?
Just wondering if more accurate maps will be available for my 3K run in Dec.

I don't know where you can find information about upcoming releases but even the last release in March shows what updates were made:

Thanks, but I have this version and it was wide of the mark for at least two cities.
For example, it is completely wrong about I-40 going through Greensboro, NC and I almost ran out of gas since it sent me on a long ride of undeveloped interstate while I thought that in 10 miles I would be at a well known exit with gas and the bc said 16 miles left in the tank. My VI is also out of tune and if any wizard/mystic/insider knows when they are going to do a performance upgrade I would like to know that so I could send it in and not just get these little patches many of which are flawed. If it wasn't for the arrows and sensitivity, I would consider the new Passport (forgot model number and such webs are blocked at work). |
It should be noted that they are often wrong about turns and exits. Last weekend it told me to get off an exit where I could turn left into my intended direction... but after that exit, there was a no-left-turn sign (that I've seen for many years from that road, incidentally). It should've told me to get off at the next exit instead where it puts me in the proper direction.
Also on the news just yesterday in Westchester, a GPS told a driver to turn right and it led him onto railroad tracks... where his vehicle was subsequently hit after being stuck. This was the 2nd time for that track that a GPS system led a driver to get stuck there. These things are not always reliable, unfortunately, and I don't think any number of updates will fix everything. What I'm saying is even if there's a new release, you may still run into the same trouble. Best of luck to you though. |
Prior to the E70 nav, I have been using a Garmin GPS so am well versed in their flaws although yesterday's story certainly got my attention.
My complaint about I-40 in Greensboro is that approximately 20 miles of freeway changed direction and the map we have was simply not updated. BTW, the same is true of the latest Garmin map. I had the unit (i.e. 2720) with me to find some off-the-map stops and checked Greensboro going west on I-40 only to discover the same problem. I think both BMW and Garmin use Nav Tech, but at least that's better than the maps built for Infinity navs. And I know there is lag time so I'm just hoping the next version will catch up on my routes. However, with construction constantly changing things, I will likely find another dark hole next time around. |
