Elvis is tweaking my alarm
i am quite sure my X is haunted. since the recent sat radio fiasco, i have seen it sit in the driveway at night and flash all courtesy lights several times for no apparent reason completely on its own accord.
however, this evenings anomaly was by far the spookiest. i had just left the local mexican eatery and as i approached the vehicle, an alarm started to sound. it would squawk for about 20 seconds and quit. about every 30 seconds it would start up again. i got in the vehicle, pressed various buttons on the key fob to no avail. i started the truck and drove off. the alarm continued to wail as i drove down the street in the same intermittent manner. i pressed the BMW Assist button and the operator informed me she could not directly help me. she did however contact a dealer in CA and by this time the ghost had moved on. only plus for the evening being the fact that the BMW Assist operator sounded like quite the hottie. |
That's normal. X5s don't like being left outside Mexican eateries and they complain bitterly. Next time you go out, eat at a classy French joint, everything will be OK there.

 Good stuff!!! :bustingup
My M3 use to do something similar... the car was thinking that a door was being opened, and the window would drop down out of the seal(frameless), furthermore setting off the alarm... drove me crazy... my stealership replaced some door component(latch?) under warranty... But it still did it. It eventually worked it out on it's own within a week or so. I will say that washing this X5 with comfort access is borderline annoying. Everytime I hit the door handles with water, it locks/unlocks, flashes lights, and beeps... |
^ throw the keys inside the car and it won't do that.

My alarm, for no reason, would go off when it seems like it's hot outside. Dealer thought I had a pet inside who would set it off...I'm about to scream at the rep for insisting I have a pet, when I don't. I have to learn to follow my own rules of not arguing with stupid people. So anyway, it's getting hot out once again. It looks like the alarm is once again starting to act up. Dunno why!

I had this same situation happen once during the winter. I touched the nose up to a snow bank, locked the car, and when I came back, I heard the alarm going on and off like the OP describes. At first I didn't even realize that it was my car. Anyway, it continued for like a 2-3 minutes like that. Since my dealer was actually on my route back to work, I stopped there, however, the alarm was normal by then. It's been fine since.

i did find out on a recent trip to the dealer that there is a service bulletin on my alarm issue and it has been remedied to the best of my knowledge.
you might want to have your dealer check for software updates on your vehicle. |
