Newb!
Hi all. Just bought the X5, and I have a question. Is there a K&N element replacement on the market, and where can I find one? I am not looking for a "cold air intake", just to replace OEM element with K&N.
Thanks for your help. |
wil that increase a little HP or something?
|
K&N does nothing, stick with OEM.

I am NOT after HP. I live in a VERY dusty environment, and I like K&N because of the ease of maintenance. And I was not looking for "pro" and "con" K&N posts, just for a pointer where can I find them.
Thanks. |
Cool....
http://www.autoanything.com/air-filters/ A waste, but W/E :) Might want to consider the cons since the oil in a K&N can mess with the A/F sensors. |

Thank you. Do you have some examples of the interference with AF sensor? I've been using K&N on all of my vehicles for years, and did not have probs. Have one on the Cooper, and H1 as I type this. No probs.

http://www.knfilters.com/ it's your vehicle, you assume all of the potential risk. |
Might be a different browser. I don't have K&N banner on my screen!
After posting this, I talked to few people that drove the X5 for a while, and everyone agrees that K&N in this vehicle is a potential trouble. I was hoping to hear from the owners that use CAI, or just the filter, and their experiences with that. Here in the desert, the AF gets dirty fast, and I've been using K&N for a while for the ease of maintenance. Much easier to wash, and oil K&N, than to drive 200 miles to the dealer, and pick up OEM. |
You don't have to drive, order filters online, or have your dealer ship them to your house...

Filters are under warranty for the first four years also...

I used to think it was easier maintaining a k&n until about the second time I had to go through the whole rigmarole and then wait for it to dry, compared to simply lifting the lid and swapping out the paper filter (on my nissan patrol, 5000km services). gave the k&n away to a mate who wanted it for his patrol, and he ended up ditching it for the same reason heh :)
