new 2009 X5 20" wheels?

Anyone see these? Looks like a nice blend between 20" 4.6(type87) and 19" 4.4(type122 i think?) sport wheels but I havent been able to find any other info or pics yet if theyre the real thing or just knockoffs.

20x10 and 20x11

Those look like the 20" wheels available on the X6 xDrive50i with sport package.

jvit27 12-15-2008 09:35 PM

Youre correct Michael, just checked BMW's website and they are style 259

Thanks!

jacksonian 01-04-2009 09:34 PM

Detroit Wheel & Tire says on that eBay listing that they are:

20" FACTORY ORIGINAL BMW X5 WHEEL
Wheels came off a 2009 BMW X5.

So is that just completely bogus? The $1399 price would make me think they were replicas, right?

EDIT: After looking more closely, it says they are reconditioned. But I'm still not sure what they are. They don't look the same as those X6 wheels to me.

LeMansX5 01-04-2009 10:46 PM

That is X6 wheels style as mentioned

http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...6/DSCN2909.jpg

jacksonian 01-04-2009 10:55 PM

Sorry, I missed it, couldn't see that little curve on the wheels in the pics on the BMW site. I don't care what anyone says, I think the X6 is a cool looking vehicle, even if it is perfectly pointless.

jacksonian 01-04-2009 11:37 PM

So will those fit on an E70 X5?

Supposed to fit.

you go ahead and buy them and let me know how they are? pls

SapphireBlackX5 01-16-2009 01:15 AM

I just bought a set on ebay. They came off of an X6 and will fit the X5 (X5 and X6 wheels are interchangable). They look nice "in person" but I have not put them on as it is still winter here in Northwest. I'll post a pic come spring.

Please confirm when you put the wheels on as there are different reports.

I'll confirm Sunday. I'll put a rear one on. I've done a lot of searching on X6 rims on ebay and all confirm fitment for X5. Also, X5 wheels list as fitting X6's

SapphireBlackX5 01-16-2009 01:54 AM

http://asheville.craigslist.org/pts/992998871.html

Here is an example of what I've been seeing on ebay. I know these are 19's but all X6 wheels state that they fit the X5s. If not, I'll have a set of 20" X6 wheels for sale on ebay. I hope they fit as they are very nice looking wheels. I like the 21" 5 spoke rims but didn't want to hassle with tire replacement. These 20s will be unique on an X5 (if they fit!!!). Sunday we will all know. I'll post a pic.

LeMans X5,
I got impatient and tried the rear on........ You are correct. Rears DO NOT fit! The hub on the X5 is ever so slightly larger than the opening on the rim. HMMMMMMMM....... What do you (or does anyone) think about having the openings on the rears machined larger (bored out) to fit the hub? Seems like its less than or close to a mm difference. I'm tired and did not check the fronts. From your research, it appears they should fit. I am posting this pic to show that the bolt pattern is exactly the same ( I could bolt them on but they didn't fit flush to the hub plate due to the difference in diameters). They do look great on! Thank you for your info.

SapphireBlackX5 01-16-2009 12:34 PM

http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...ckx5/front.jpg

Here's what I've found out. The fronts fit perfectly (pic). Tried them on this AM. Went to Discount tire and they looked up the X6 5.0 20 wheels (which are the ones above that I purchased). He told me that they are the exact same measurement on all 4 and should fit fronts and rears w no problem. When I was fitting the rears, all I can say is that they were VERY heavy and maybe I didn't apply enought force to seat them properly. I will wait for spring and have Discount tire mount all four and then post. So If you are looking to purchase this style, they should work out fine. A great look IMO

LeMansX5 01-16-2009 12:59 PM

Thanks, SapphireBlackX5.

rh71 01-16-2009 10:58 PM

I like the design, but those tires look small on the E70 to me. I guess we'll get a better picture when it's not jacked up. :D

goodthomas 01-17-2009 05:42 PM

style 214 looks better

pongpap 01-18-2009 04:47 AM

SapphireBlackX5
So, does it fit? I love style 275 on the X6 and hoping that it would fit, so that I can have it on my X5. Offset on both front and rear of Style 275 are the same with some of X5 wheels. Just hope that it would have the same bore size.

SapphireBlackX5 01-18-2009 04:43 PM

I am not convinced just yet. The "Discount Tire" store here looked them up and said they should fit. When I have some time, I'll have them try them on. I will have them "bored out" if the openings are too small. He said they have a machine shop that charges $50 per wheel if it comes to that.
I'll let you know...

SapphireBlackX5 01-18-2009 04:54 PM

Just found this info on a tire/wheel website. I cut and pasted this:

The X6 uses M14x1.5 bolts on a 5x120 PCD but bizarrely has different size centre bores front/rear! The front is 74.0mm and rear 72.5mm

I guess I will have the rears bored out to 74.0mm. There is a "lip" around the edge that seems thicker on the rears than on the fronts. It should be easy to have done.

Just measured the wheel centers. Info I found is correct. The center openings on the REARS: 72.5mm FRONTS: 74.0mm

X5 hub rings ON THE VEHICLE will accept the 74.0mm openings both front and rear. I will have to bore out the REARS from 72.5 to 74.0. Cost will be 50 bucks for each rear wheel and then I'll be able to mount them.

Ameritrades 01-18-2009 07:03 PM

That's what I thought (see below). Thanks for confirming - sorry you are the guinea pig.

Should be an easy "fix" however. Not much metal to remove to make them fit. I will be sure to post once I have them mounted. Thanks to all for the info. Might be nice to have possibly the only X5 with these wheels!!

pongpap,
If you go with the 275's, I'd love to see a few pics. Those wheels are INCREDIBLE!! I think they would make the X5 look very aggressive.

:iagree: YES, this is the 275 that I'm talking about. I've taken a look at your ebay listings many times and still deciding. 275 would be nice cuz no one in Doha has it on X5 yet, but it will also come with lots of work on enlarging the bore size on the rear wheels. My concern is that there aren't any good tire shop here in Doha that can enlarge the bore size on these rims. I just don't trust them to work on this expensive set of wheels.

I'm also interested on your other listing of 239 style. But the problem is that there are quite a few guys here with 239 already.

So many projects in my head ya know... I also got Hartge Classic II 20" for E60 sitting around and just wonder that I could make it fit on E70 or not. I'm not driving my E60 that much anymore cuz I'm now living in Doha and my E60 is mostly sleeping in the garage back in Bangkok. :dunno:

SapphireBlackX5
If I end up deciding to go with style 275 I will post some pic here for sure.
Thanks again!

I mounted one of the fronts on the rear and lowered the car. Looks good. Not 21s, but I think they look a lot better than my 18s! I am taking my rear wheels to a place today to have them bored out to fit.

I am not sure what it is, but the new 20" rim doesn't seem to fill up the wheel arch. Especially the 3rd picture. Is the X raised?

I don't think so. I guess that those wheels were designed exclusively for the X6 to blend with it's wheel arch design.. or it could be that that the car is dirty yet the new wheels and tyres are new. They don't blend well this way. Throw some mud on them:rofl:

SapphireBlackX5 01-23-2009 01:43 PM

The rims are the exact same measure as the style 214s. The tire measurements are exact as well. Discount Tire Co here looked them up and ALL measurements are exactly the same as the 20s on the 4.8 e70 (214s) except for the rear hub diameter as weve been discussing. The pics dont do them justice IMO. Looking at them "in car" (in person) , they look good. I owned an 04 e53 and had the 5 spoke 20s on it and loved the look of the 5 spokes. I definitely like the 21s better but dont want to pay 4K. I got these wheels and tires off of ebay (they are OEM) brand new (had like 25 delivery miles on them) for 2K.

No, but I had just lowered the X prior to taking pic. That angle looks like the wheels are tiny but in person they don't look that bad.

Absolutely, YES! You may not be able to have the "staggared look" of having different size tires, however. The bonus there is that you could rotate!

Detroit Wheel and Tire has them. I believe they sell refurbished ones. They told me that usually there is minor scratch damage when they get them and repaint to look brand new. They sell OEM. You might have luck finding 4 fronts from them. Just make sure they have the 74.1mm bore opening. I agree with you. I love this wheel too. The pics don't do them justice.

Here are bore measurements in case you need for "boring out":;)
X5 E70 center bore is 74mm on all wheels and
X6 front wheel center bore is 74mm and rear wheel is 72.5mm(which is E53 X5 bore size).

I sent one if the fronts with the two rears. I will have the machine shop measure the front (since it fit my rear hub perfectly) and bore the rears to "match."

Should have them back in a week

Actual hub measurements are what you have listed.

In order for wheel to "fit" over the hub, the measure needs to be slightly larger:

I found 74.1mm and 72.56mm for the actual bore measurements.

Make sense?:dunno:

Look at this link for X5 e70 replicas. Look down on right under measurements and the bore opening measurement is 74.1. This would allow proper fitment "over" a 74.0mm hub.

Ok. Let know when yours is done. Its interesting that most BMWs except E39, E70 and E71 have 72.5 mm bore.
