Great price on a buy back vehicle. Is it worth it to buy?
So I went to a dealer this weekend to check out a pretty good price on an 08 BMW X5 3.0 with pretty much every option but sports package and 1000 miles on it. The dealer wants $45900 but is willing to go down to $44000. He said that this car was bought back from a loyal customer after he came back with the same problem 3 times in 2 weeks. The problem is that the car's alarm system goes off and all console lights light up. He said that since they bought the car back, they replaced all related modules and the car is fixed. According to them this is not a lemon, but I would not be able to return the car to them if I continue to experience these problems. If the problem comes back, they will try to fix it.
Has anyone dealt or heard of this program. Is it worth it? What should I do? I have the car for the next week to see if anything happens. If nothing happens, I am considering purchasing it. Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert |
Sometimes a bargain is not a bargain, if in return you get aggravation, time lost from work/leisure, and sleepless nights.
I would not buy somebody else's problems, no matter how cheap they are selling them. But you will do what you want, of course. editted to add: I went through your post and missed that this is 3.0si!! I just bought the same vehicle, with ZERO miles, and ZERO issues on 12/6. My OTD price was 43500 plus tax. |
I'ld walk away. If they have fixed it then why wouldn't you be able to return it too if it exhibited the same problems?

I wouldn't walk, I'd run... That's crazy they wouldn't take it back if it had the same problem...

Agree with all above...forget it: the key was the
stlr suggesting they are "done" trying to fix issue, even though it's still under oem warranty. BS, imo. There are lots overflowing with Xs out there in "slightly used/lease turn in" land. If you are set on an X, go spend some weekends looking. The ones jamming the BMW stlrs' lots are burning holes in their pockets. Time and patience is on your side, imo. GL,mD |
You take the chance of spending many, many, days at the dealer getting something fixed.

And for this price range in this time period, I would definitely not go used especially if there were a history of any sort. |
It usually takes a lot to get a dealer to buy back a car.
See if they will share the prior owners name and give him a call? Unless your getting a huge discount, I would keep looking |

it could turn out to be a good deal if the car's fixed, but if it is fixed then why is the dealer not standing behind it. I would definitely ask for an included extended warranty in the price before I took it. Good Luck
