Ipod install on a 07?

So my X5 doesnt have the Ipod option in it. I went to the dealer and they want $980.00 to do it!!! they said there is $400.00 in parts and 4 hours of Programing!!!! there has to be an alternative to this is there not???:dunno:

The ONLY other alternative is a iPod dock plugged in the cig lighter. This looks like crap BTW.

There's always the mObridge kit:

mObridge - iPod integration kit for e70 X5
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...oducts_id=1650

Faster, upgradeable and supports the current line of iPods/iPhone. If you're already equipped with a CD Changer, this will replace it - with no coding necessary.

If you are not equipped with a changer - it will need a trip to the dealer.

I'm getting the Ipod retrofit done by the dealer on the 9th. He quoted $550 total, including 1 or 1 1/2 hours labor. By the way the parts are only $240 at getbmwparts.com:

65110403651* Each $299.95 $240.00
OEM BMW E70 X5 iPod Interface

The BMW iPod interface allows you to control your tunes through the BMW Multifunction Steering Wheel and stereo system while your iPod sits safely in the glove box, powered by your car battery - which means your hands stay on the wheel and your eyes stay on the road. And unlike with existing cassette and FM transmitter options, sound quality is entirely uncompromised. Just plug your iPod, iPod mini or iPod photo into a special cable installed in the glove box, and you can enjoy endless miles of music pumped right through your BMW's stereo system - with every song at your request. Adapter also charges the iPod's internal battery when the vehicle is running. *Not compatible for vehicles equipped with factory option USB/iPod interface produced from 04/07 - on. Additional parts may be required.

No charging support for current model iPods or 3G iphone. Also - the kit is unbearably slow.

It works!

I got the iPod kit installed today at BMW of Annapolis (formerly the horrific Tate BMW). ~ $690 total. The mechanic tried it with his 80gb 5th gen ipod and it worked great, then I plugged in my 32gb touch and it fired right up. After reading about slow loading I was a bit surprised when it download 5K songs in about 30 secs. Not bad! I would recommend this kit. I bought an early build 07 X5 and the kit wasn't available so I'm happy this worked out so well! I could not confirm if the iPod was charging so I'll mess with it awhile over the next few days and post comments.

Can't do any comparison on speed (it seems OK) but my iPod and my iPhone 3G do charge on my 6FL USB option in my 2008 E70. Maybe the iPod retrofit, referred to earlier, is something different.

I have part # 61120440796 -- the original 6FL part # was 61120440645

6FL charges the current lineup, the BMW iPod kit does not.

My dealer quoted 400- $500.

Incorrect dude. My iPod 32gb touch is charging with the BMW iPod retrofit. Tech said he believes BMW changed the adapter.
