Closest I can get anyone around here.. do you think that's a California/West coast specific market price?

No. You should be able to get at invoice or close. Try dealing with an internet sales manager at the dealers in your region and just order through them. Or take their price and go back to the dealers locally and tell them to match it.

I got mine in ATL for $1500 over invoice during Thanksgiving.

I'm not sure I trust the published invoice though, it does not seem like there is much profit in a $70k car.

HIRISC 12-31-2008 03:11 PM

profit on options seems 'slim', profit on base is pretty big. On my configuration, the delta between invoice and MSRP is about $6200 (i added Nappa Leather)

You can do a lot better.

Think of it this way, if the market keeps tanking so is the value of your truck. You need to be getting the best deal out the door.

X5rolls 12-31-2008 04:44 PM

I agree... try shopping the price around the internet to dealers. I've done this before (on a different vehicle though) and found several thousand dollars difference. I had to prove to them that I was a motivated and qualified buyer to get them to take me seriously.

Once I had the lowest price, I went back to my local dealer (who I really wanted to buy from to begin with) and asked them to match, otherwise I'd buy from other dealer. They matched it.

Not sure if it will work for an X5. Good luck.

You should be able to get it for $500-$1000 over invoice. Shop around...
I don't know about invoice, but it doesn't hurt to try...

Craig

some dealers are willing to go for invoice, if u have great credit, it's yours!!!!!!!!!!!

HIRISC 01-02-2009 09:13 PM

Update - $1500 over invoice.. I didn't have time (aka, didn't plan ahead) to try any non-local dealers and not get into the price hike. Figured that saved me nearly a grand.

Also decided on the Nappa leather upgrade - including dash/console/etc.. It's sweet.

Have to say, I agree with Craig. However, I'm on the East Coast and I just ordered a 2009 4.8i and, after searching dealers I found a deal at $200 above invoice. Got all the options I wanted and more.

Bottom line, if you're happy with the deal then do it. The price of the car isn't the only thing to weigh - do you like the CA/Dealership? Do they ave a good reputation? how is their service department? You should take those types of questions should be considered as well.

Good luck!

:iagree: with others that you SHOULD be able to get at or below invoice with this state of the economy, even on an ordered vehicle. I got mine at $1500 over invoice 5 years ago on an ordered vehicle, when the economy was doing very well, so I'm sure you can do much better than that today!

TexasBMW 01-04-2009 03:34 PM

In today's world, you can do much better.

I paid Dealer cost +$1000 a year ago.

HIRISC 01-04-2009 04:19 PM

Deal was done at $1500 over on 12/31 as posted..

I feel just fine about it - I wasn't pushing too hard as my company makes the payment and I didn't leave myself very much time (8 weeks) prior to my current lease end.

I'll start a lot earlier in a couple years when I'm looking again.

Thanks very much for all the feedback.

TexasBMW 01-04-2009 04:21 PM

Thats great. Every deal is different - and you are likely to get incredible service in the future giving the dealer some profit. Congrats, you are going to love it!!

HIRISC 01-04-2009 04:26 PM

Thanks - they are the 'main' BMW dealer here and I'm a repeat customer.. Service is always amazing.

HIRISC 01-05-2009 11:37 PM

Update - a little bird told me that the new iDrive/CIC and possibly the Turbo V8 powerplant might be released in March..

I canceled my order @ $1500 over invoice on the '09 4.8i.

We'll see what 'springs-up' in the next couple of months.

:)

ask the deal how much is the alternative cash-back if you don't take BMW financing.
Here in Canada is $5000 cash-back.

nynd 01-09-2009 05:00 PM

In Canada... that $5k isn't a whole lot when you look at the base for a 4.8 starting at low $70's... then put options.. taxes etc.. your out the door price can be in excess of $120K.. depending on option content of course.

What? $5K is a lot to get back considering most buyers are paying 1500 over msrp.
How much did you buy for?
