When does the E70 get the new idrive controller?

Has anyone actually looked at other models (such as the 5 or 7 series) into retrofitting it yet? Is it just a newer control with more buttons or are there many differences in the wiring??

There will not be a retrofit as it is not in BMW's financial interest to do it. And it is too closely integrated with software and other functions to do it without BMW software update support.

2010 model - as Penquin mentioned, there is a lot to it.

If you can retrofit a Nav in X5 than you are the person most qualified for this. ;) :)
