Brake dust shields?
 

I saw these Kleen Wheel brake dust shields while looking around for wheels. I searched the whole X5World forums and couldn't find a single mention of anyone using any thing like it. Any thoughts? http://www.brakedustcover.com/

Haven't seen the shields on an X5 but, I did see them on a 750i and 550i and, IMO, they take away for the look of the car. If they are the same ones Park Avenue BMW uses, they look like a separate plate between the wheel and the brake rotor.

I assume you want to do something about the brake because it creates filthy wheels. If that is the case, these may keep your wheels clean but, add a different level of uglyness.

I wouldn't recommend them.

Ah, I see, that would make sense then. I just hate that my wheels get so yucky so quickly.

No one here, that I recall, uses them.
They look funky, but the main reason is reduced caliper/rotor ventilation, imo.
I'd pass on them.

Wheel Wax or any of the many waxes, "sealers" will help in reducing brake
dust build up and, afford easier cleaning.

You must have used shield(s) as the search term. I left off the (s) and didn't get anything specific. Oh well. I guess that should have given me the answer. If there was a decent solution out there, you guys would have already been talking about it! :)

"Wax" of some kind, regular gentle "hose offs" and washings...
Wheels stand out, so a weekly quick spritz, gentle wipe and hosing
keeps them looking better, between serious washings, imo.

Yeah, I remember now when I had my 5 series sedan, I just kept a cloth in the garage and wiped down the wheels several times between washings.

Throw some Rejex on the wheels.

Never heard of Rejex before, I'll ask my detail guy.

I just happened to read the Roadside Assistance sticker on my windshield. It talks about installation of non-BMW approved accessories possibly being dangerous and affecting your warranty, and it specifically mentions brake dust shields. Interesting.
