Any one got the winter set up?

I have a 2008 x5 4.8 with the 20" wheel (style 214) and its very slippery in the snow. i ask the dealer and he said its not an all season tire and he said it would be better if u got the winter set up. I'm wondering is it really better and is it worth buying? Pics please...

You absolutely need winter tires, especially in Vancouver since Dec 17th.

Best bet is to have a separate set of winter wheels, with dedicated winter tires. That way you can get a smaller wheel (18") and the tires will perform better in the snow, and not be as expensive as 20". Skip the all-seasons, and get the proper ones. I got mine at my dealer, but you can get non-OEM wheels as well.

How much did u get it for, like everything included?

Mine were around $3000 CDN, but it depends on the tire and wheel combo. There are cheaper alternatives.

Winter Set Up
 

I agree. Even my 18" Bridgestone Duelers are not great in snow compared to a dedicated winter tire. Our little Accord has them and runs circles in the snow and ice. For that reason I am getting a 20" wheels and tire set up and use the 18" for winter tires on the X5.

If you go none run flat and non EOM you can get away paying less. It is up to you. You also may find some used 18" around. Good dedicated winter tires are good insurance as you do have some hills and bridges there.

I found a set of 19's with all seasons on ebay for $1400 incl shipping. We'll see how they perform. I'm sure it will be better than the 20's - although not as good as snow tires.

I echo Puzz... I picked up a set of take offs from a new X5 with the 19's with Michelins on them and so far.. great in snow. When they wear - replace them with winters.
