Winterproblems?
My headlight sprinkers (things that spray water on them) have complety frozen off. Everthing including the caps were gone. It was -20°C here in Belguim and I tought they were stolen. BMW will replace them withouts costs.
Now I have some problems with Idrive startup (takes 2-3 minutes) and the NAVI DVD does not work. Next week my X5 will receive new software and I hope this will be solved... Have anyone had the same problems as me? |
Here is a 7 page thread on cold weather problems...yes, it was initiated on the E53 board,
but probs. are similar, and many E70 owners chime in. Enjoy the read. GL,mD http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...headaches.html |
-20° :wow:
it hasn't been freezing here in Belgium for over a week now...:dunno: |
my headlamp cleaners dont even popup, and the washer fluid stopped coming out. they used some air pressure to clean out the hoses, but i have to take it in for an appointment for it to be fixed. there were a lot of bmws at the dealer waiting for this 5 minute fix, on a not-so-cold day either.

thanks for the links |
As mentioned on the other thread, I am currently having issues with driver side door not latching when it gets too cold. It is currently in the shop for over a week already... Happened to me first time when I was in upstate NY, when it got as cold as -20C. Does not happen on warm days. Very frustrating as one has to wait for 10-15 mins for the car interior to warm up before it would latch normally. The problem with E70 is that you can not put the car into R or D with an open door - the computer throws it back to P as soon as you start moving. So I could not even turn the car around to have the door face the sun :(

The wonders of advanced technology. Sometimes I'm temped to buy something old and used without the "advances" of technology, with cable parking brakes, etc. These seems to be so many more things nowadays that will completely disable a vehicle, and which require a trip to the shop to repair, rather than some roadside "duct tape" temporary action. Not too bad if you are in a urban area, but I am retiring and plan to do a lot of trips in places like Utah and the western mountains. I'm havin second thoughts about buying an X5 vs. something "lower tech," such as a Ford Explorer. Yeah, I know, performance, handling, and comfort-wise a Ford Explorer doesn't compare with a BMW X5, but if you've got a stuck electronic parking brake in the middle of the desert, or in Silverton or Leadville, Co, all that handling, performance, and comfort starts to become less important. |
I've noticed the idrive acts up when it's cold out - something like 15F it will cause delays in reading discs and just getting rid of the BMW start logo... camera won't display right away, etc.

You can all move to Arizona! :nanana:
4PM right now and 77F under the sunny skies. |

I was there visiting and flew back to Chicago last Thursday night... just in time for 14 below! Rather miserable when it hits you in the face after being in Phoenix 4 hours earlier. |
