BTW, I am getting 18 in mixed driving in my 3.0si X5, and have seen 21-22 on the freeway, not bad. I would have loved the extra oomph that the 4.8 has but then my more sensible side convinces me that I would have only needed it occassionally (?;)) |
The best I've done on a trip down I95 to S.C. is 19.4 mpg. I was rolling about 75-80 the whole way. The old 01 E53 3.0 on the same trip got 23mpg fully loaded so not a huge difference but noticeable one. The gas tank on the E70 is smaller too, so more frequent fill ups. Love em both but the E70 is really amazing.

Will do. Hopefully we will be done with the snow and ice soon so I can make the switch.
Sorry for the thread hijack |
Wow... someone with the 4.8 is getting 17 mpg?? I've never even seen 15! :wow: I'm getting 13.2, but I am one hell of a lead foot. 95 is "cruising" for me... I guess I should not be surprised.
Anyway, you're pretty dead on with your review of the e70. It IS an amazing vehicle, and very agile and fast for such a beast. I do have the 20s with the Sport Package, and though I love the handling, the road noise coming from those tires is quite annoying. What's even more annoying is that I only have 13K miles. Juan |
No No...I got 17 with the 335. I'm getting 12-13 with the 4.8
|
i get 17 with my '08 4.8i X5 in mixed local driving. always have.

I don't dare to look at my gas mileage. I just enjoy the 4.8i power. dont really care much for mileage since if i start tracking; I'll drive like a grandma. so i put that behind me and drive like i just robbed a bank. My guess would be less then 13 mpg though. But it seems like i have to fill up once a week so I'm pretty use the routine now.

How can you refer the X5 as a truck? I have been driving SUV's since my first child was born (24 years ago, very first SUV made, Jeep Cherokee) and have never gone back to a sedan. We have had just about every SUV made, Jepp Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer (hugh with the old Wood panels, used to call it a hotel on wheels), Toyota Landcruiser, Mitsubishi Montero, Ford Explorer and Expedition, GMC Suburban and Yukon XL, Lexus GX470 and now X5. The others were all built on truck frames and felt like trucks except for the Lexus. I tried to go back to a sedan (or even a crossover) now that we are empty nesters but just couldn't do it. I like the feel and safety of being higher up. The visibility is so much better!!! Was going to wait until the Volvo XC60 came out but became too impatient and was a little worried it would be too small. Have had my X5 for a week and absolutely love it. There is no way whatsoever that it has any truck feel in it!!! Out of all the SUV's we've had it handles the most just like a car. Your wife will love it and will find it hard to go back to anything else other than an SUV. Enjoy yours!!!!
