Faulty Camshaft Position Sensors

I brought my 07 4.8i in today to the dealers after having the check engine light on for 2 weeks.

The fault code is -faulty camshaft position sensor and 4 of them have to be swapped out. My service rep says there's a service bulletin out from BMW that this is an existing problem.

Symptoms: The engine will crank but fail to start- not often but once in a while (1/ in 6-8 months?)

I've been thinking that there is something wrong with the fuel, but I guess that's not the cause.

Rep says the engine should run more efficiently now- we'll see how that goes.

Look at my past post somewhere... I had the same issue. All 4 were swapped and I have an 08 4.8i.

I don't think anybody would really know what the cost would be because just about every new E70 style is still under warranty. Unless something happened and your warranty was voided.

yup. Should be under warranty.

Just wondering if they put the price on the invoice even if it's under warranty... gauging whether extended warranties would be worth it later on.

It was mentioned earlier that BMW has a bulletin out regarding the issue. So even if it happens when your car comes off warranty, they might still cover it since it is a known issue.

I think it WOULD HAVE BEEN $207 / sensor and about 3 hr labour. So... add that one... well over a grand.
