custom wood steering wheel?

As mentioned before, I just traded in my 2005 Lexus GX470 for a 2008 X5 CPO. The one thing I really miss is the maple wood steering wheel on the Lexus as I have gotten so use to the smooth feel. Have looked online but haven't found anything like that steering wheel for the X5. I have the cold weather package with the heated steering wheel so can I assume that there is no such thing as a custom wood steering wheel? Would love to hear some suggestions!!!

Er, can't really be done. I suppose one could go to Germany an order an Individual programme steering wheel, but even that only has a "thin ring" of wood around it.

Didn't think so but thought it was worth asking, thanks!!

There is a company that takes your existing steering wheel and cuts out parts of the wheel and replaces them with real wood. Although this sounds kind of crazy, I have actually seen the finished product and I was amazed. However you wouldn't be able to get wood accents AND get it heated. If you really want to do it, I can try and find out for you but it was kind of pricey. They matched the existing wood in the vehicle and it was around $1200! :yikes:

Know what you mean. Check out this one. Nicest I've ever seen.

I was happy to lose wood steering wheel when I switched from a RX350 to an X5. It was hot in summer and cold in the winter. Really love the heated steering wheel - you don't know you need it until you've had it.
