Removing rear wiper arm

Hi, can someone help me out with how to remove the rear wiper arm assembly? The actual arm came off after some snow from the roof slid on to it (spring was lost at that time) and it also cracked the pivot section so I have bought replacements. I have removed the nut holding the pivot section but it still doesn't budge. Is it just a matter of using enough force or am I missing something??

Hi,

I broke my arm also, once I got the arm off I was left with a knurled piece of metal left on the cam just below the threads, I used a vice grips and penetrating oil to gently get it off, it did take a bit of pressure to get it off

Regards

Thanks for your response. Can I just clarify something: I have removed the arm and the nut holding the 'pivot' section and all I can see is a threaded section above the the pivot I am trying to remove. Is that what you had? I'm concerned as I have tried oil and a bit of force already and I'm nervous about damaging the screen or anything else if I apply too much force!

After re-reading your rerponse I don't think I have even got to the stage you describe as getting the arm off. The bit that holds the wiper blade had broken off already. but the 'elbow' section that I expected just to slide off after I removed the nut is stuck fast.......??

maybe this diagram will help?

Thats great, thanks. I had searched for that diagram but couldnt find it. From looking at that and after a call to my local dealer it seems I just need to persevere trying to pry it off.

Thanks again.

Can you take a photo and email it to me? I will tell you where to go from there

You can use the battery terminal puller.

Loosen the nut all the way but leave it on to protect the threads. I used two pair of channel locks on opposite sides. squeeze from the bottom of the arm (around the shaft) to the nut. Two squirts of penetrating oil and a squeeze and it will pop off.

This is what a wiper arm remover is for. Or a battery terminal puller can also work.
