Help: Geniune BMW style 214 20" is made by RONAL in Mexico? See attached pictures
I am about to buy these from a guy who is selling his staggerd 20 in" wheels. He claims they are OEM Genunine BMW style 214 wheels.
I asked him to take pictures of the inner side of the wheels - please see below. So the part number checks out 6772249 for the front and 6772250 for the rear according to realoem.com along with the BMW stamp To my surprise, the pictures also showed these wheels are made by RONAL, also made in Mexico? Is this true? So are these genuine BMW light alloy wheels for Style 214? http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0095.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0096.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0079.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0087.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0088.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0090.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0091.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0092.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0001.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...u/DSC_0002.jpg |
Yeap! - they seem legit.
|
legit... even has the stock SportMaxx on them. ;)
|
and the 239's are made in Hungary by Ronal :wow:
|
Just curious... How much?
|
Ronal and Borbet make wheels for a few OE applications, as well as some aftermarket. My front Hartge 21" Classic 2s were made by Ronal and the rears were made by Borbet.
|
Interesting..."Ronal" on GOOG turns up a link,
but the link does not open. Other links are from wheel sellers, Euro operations, etc. I was trying to find a corporate Ronal site to see if they listed "manufacturing locations", but no luck. Most mfg'ers love to rave about their worldwide locations, esp. manufacturing. |
Yes Ronal has a factory in San Pedrito, Querataro, Mexico. You can check the website here: Starten Sie durch!

i find it funny how people in general dog replica wheels and where they are made, here is a perfect example of OEM being made in a less than desirable area of the world where quality control can be less than perfect
|
Ha ha, I love my 214 replicas now even more :D
|
I'm confused. I was actually interested in these but saw that they were listed for $5995. Is it really $1700 from an actual dealer such as Morristown mentioned above for 4 wheels???

Morristown usually provide good discount I bought some accessseris from them such as trunk mat at $58 vs. $77 list. |

I'm going to check with the dealer again. It was the 214s but it was about 6 months ago.
|
What, does everything think even BMW is too good to outsource to other countries? Come on...they're a business. Just goes to show once again that you don't always get what you pay for when you buy from the stealership vs. online...you still never know what you're getting.
|
^ one thing about buying OEM though, the dealer has to stand by it. RIght now with my replica rims I have a company in the sky to talk to instead of bugging the dealership to fix the vibration problem regardless.

> a less than desirable area of the world where quality control can be less than perfect
Area of the world is irrelevant when it comes to quality control -- quality control is related to management desire and competence. It is not unheard of for parts rejected by, or not meeting the specifications of the contracting company's quality control, to then be sold under the manufacturing company's name, rather than discarded or recycled. Just because Manufacturer "A" is supplying parts to Company "B," does not mean that the parts you buy directly from Manufacturer "A" under their name are the same quality as those purchased from company "B" under company B's name. |
Sorry to hear that but are you sure it is coming from the replica rims? not the tire? How bad is it?

manufacturing. Penquin nailed it. QC is an in-plant situ driven by vendor/materials mgmt and process control methods. I wouldn't have any qualms on the wheels... BR,mD |

Do you have hubcentric rings? I've had my rims mounted on my 740iL for over 2 years, still had vibrations, which prompted me to replace the suspension. In the meantime I let a friend put them on his 750iL and suddenly he got vibrations also. Once I told the people at Les Schwab about this, they measured my wheels and said that I needed hubcentric rings. I don't care if your wheels say they're made for your car or not, because mine are also...you still might need them after all.
