Center console button assignments ?
1 Attachment(s)
There appear to be spaces for 9 buttons in the center console. Has anyone identified more than 6 assigned so far?
1. 2. Active Seat for driver 3. Park Distance Control 4. Dynamic Traction Control off 5. Hill Descent Control 6. Open Tailgate 7. 8. Active seat for passenger 9. |
I see only 8. Where is the 9th?
I think the extras are to add a button in the future if needed for any accessories. |
So far at least, its:
1. Blank 2. Active Seat for driver 3. Park Distance Control 4. Dynamic Traction Control off 5. Hill Descent Control 6. Open Tailgate 7. Blank 8. Active seat for passenger 9. Blank Of course if you dont order active seat, you get two larger blanks on the left and right side of the core 4 middle buttons. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...10&hg=61&fg=35 |
Ok I have 9.
So what are they for? |
2 blanks are for front seats eject buttons which come with James Bond package. :D

They need to start using BMW's again in the movies, although the DBS is very nice. |
- Yeah the picture is cut off, that's why you don't see the 1st blank. (It's the clearest photo I could find so I cropped it as best I could.)
- Bond Girl - Pussy Galore, hands down. - BMW in the movies, Good God never again. The World was not enough was pure shit and one big long commercial....vodka, bmw, omega, etc. No plot, terrible acting, lousy Bond chick (michelle yeow...ughhh), retarded villian (jonathan price with borderline heart failure and extreme shortness of breath)...... Anyway let's get back on topic. I was just wondering if anyone, particularly in Europe, has seen any more of them filled yet? |
they area using the blanks on the M cars, X6 M and X5 M (don't ask for a reference I don't have one) :)
BTW, did you know that on my 07 4.8i, there is an AUTO H light cutout in the main cluster panel, even thought BMW say Auto H is a "new" feature on the 08's? They are definitely withholding my 2 cents |
That makes no sense. For what functions?

I don't remember I have a button for active seat for passenger.
I only remember the active seat for driver. I gotta check it tomorrow morning. |
You don't. So far it's only available outside of the USA, for whatever stupid ass reason. (Though it is starting to appear that it might be able to be retrofitted after the fact)
|
So where do the ventulated seat buttons for driver and passenger go? do they take up the last two spares?
And the buttons for heated driver & passenger seats, do they go above the buttons that control the air circulation? |
The ventilated seat buttons are up top next to the AC controls, so they do not take any spares. The heated and ventilated seats are the same button I believe or at least they are on mine.
|
So how does that work? a button to turn on heat, usually has 3 levels of heat? so how can the same button turn on the cool air for ventulated seats?

I don't get that one either since the button seems to only have 1 led on it per function. My guess is that the duel button is a rocker type button, but does the led get brighter each time you press the heated side or something? Can someone explain?
Update. Never mind....just read it in the manual on the home page. It basically turns the system on and then it pops up on the idrive where you can apparently adjust it from slow simmer to fat-burning mode. I should have guessed. |

Last 3 spare buttons. And that was the reason for my post!

Ok, lets assume that buttons 1 & 9 are false buttons because they look like a blank as they are different to the others?
That leaves number 7, ok a birthday cake for the first person to come up with the correct answer? |
Where is the button for turning on & off the automatic highbeam headlight dipping if you get that option?

Nope, 1 & 9 are assignable. I'm not giving up on this quest!
|
Wow, really? You got a pic of that in the X5?

Ok, got a thought, the rear electric rollerblind, where is that button?
And if you get the rear aircon and DVD rear system is there any overide buttons that might be used? |
There is no rear electric rollerblind in the X5. No also to your other thoughts. Nice try though!
|
The Auto highbeam is not a button. When the headlights are on, you pull the highbeam stick a little in towards yourself and it will show "A" with the highbeam simple in the LCD in the instrument cluster. To keep them on, you pull the stick in until it "clicks".
|
How about a retrofit option considered by BMW for a front nightvision camera? That could be #7. And how about the side cameras and front camera which are already an option for the X5? wild guess.
If not, then how about the DTB-V (whatever it is) digital TV tuner, does that need a button? |
How about something to do with towing. Is there a towing button in the X, because most cars that tow have a button?
For 1 and 9 it has to be something which is both on the left and right side and probably an accessory. #1 to control the left side and #9 to control the right side. |

Still leaves button 7? |

I thought I got it right. :dunno: I think they are there to make us to think about what we are missing. |
Took a while to figure it out for the E53 X5, I'm sure we'll get it for the E70. Of course it is possible that they have not yet been assigned.

Can anyone identify the right most button in this grouping? It's from the new E70 facelift model and also present in the X5 M, X6 M catalog. From left to right it looks like:
- Park Distance Control - Traction Control OFF - Hill Decent Control - Tailgate Open - ? |

That's actually a pretty good guess. Can anyone verify it?

Figured out #7. So here is the tally so far:
1. Blank 2. Active Seat for driver 3. Park Distance Control (PDC) / Rear view camera with Top View / 4. Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) off / Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) off / M Dynamic Mode (MDM) 5. Hill Descent Control (HDC) 6. Unlocking/opening Liftgate 7. Side View 8. Active seat for passenger (so far only available on Euro spec X5's) 9. Blank |
