Parking Camera/Monitor as an option?
Can anyone tell me if the Parking Camara/Monitor option can be installed as an accessory?
The item is in the Accessory catalog for UKŁ260 ($400) but I would have thought that this would be a factory only option?? Thanks |
It certainly looks like it from the brochure. Maybe doesn't have the same level of integration as the factory fit though.

I test drove an X5 recently with this feature and was really impressed with it! Considering its only a couple of hundred pounds/dollars as a option I wish it was a standard feature!
OK the sensors are standard but the video monitor feature is so cool! |
You can't order it as a stand alone option in the U.S. You can order it on the X6, but not on the X5...

Talked to BMW dealer today and heres what I found.
You CAN get the parking camera option retro fitted as an accesory option. However, due to the 7 hours!!! that it'll take their service guys to install it negates any value in having the feature! It requires a camera plus a fiber optic cable from the back tailgate to the existing monitor in the dash. Personally, I'd rather do the work myself but cant get my hands on the parts! |

If you do not have NAV then the part number is 66210417969 and the install instructions 0418006. You must still have PDC though. Hope that helps! |
$400 parts plus 7 hrs labor for the crappy rear view camera we're all complianting about! Wht not get a aftermarket wireless unit for around $500, including better picture quality camera mount on your plate frame and a monitor?

King, whats the EBA CD? And where might I get one?
lynstermkiii - I used the camera on a test drive. I thought it was fine! If I can aviod it I'd prefer to aviod non-bmw accessories. Besides, the main reason is to help my wife from reversing into the garage wall again! |
