Help! Lowering Options?
Ive seen that our X5's have some sort of automatic leveling system. I dont know if this has to do with the springs? my question is there any way to take the stock leveling system and adjust these to make the car lower? I remember when i put rims on my car it was tilted to the left and very uneven, then after a short drive the car leveled it self out. Can we modify this leveling system?

Firstly. do you have Adaptive Drive as well as the self-levelling suspension on the rear!
There are sensors that check the height & whether the car is level. I had a sensor on the righthand rear fail once and it droped that righthand rear side of the X5 down by 20mm. In the pdf of the self-levelling suspension it talks about the minium height and how to setup the sensors. In thoery one could recaliabrate the height but I don't think BMW would let you do it. Companies like Dinan probably could or some of the other highend tuners. |
I just had my 4.8i with self leveling lowered with H&R (Race) springs.
For the self-leveling X5's, the H&R spring kit only comes with 2 front springs: http://hrsprings.com/scripts/appguide.php?Mode=Application+Guide&SubMode=Find2& Year=2008&ModelID=125&q=2008%20|%20BMW%20|%20X5 You can either go with sport (1.2 inch front drop) or race (2.0 inch front drop) Once you install the front springs, we will need to get custom shortened links for the rear which adjust the rear height. The links which the shop installed on my rear were about 1/3 of the length of the stock links. Good luck, I will be posting pics soon. |

Well, for the 1.2 inch drop, since it is very consertive, the rear may adjust by itself. I know my rear dropped a little (about 1 inch) when I did my 2 inch drop in the front. However, it was still a lot higher in the rear. I had the shop replace the stock rear links with custom short links and this did the job.

Or the Hartge kit comes with front springs and new rear clips.

Had this problem as well after installing H&R springs. I went to my dealer to try to get them to lower it for me, but they didn't know what I was talking about.
I think there's someone on the forum here that sells custom links he makes himself, or I've heard that BavAuto might sell the springs as well. But I would love to know where I can get some links myself and just do this on my own. Sorry couldn't be of more help. |
